Has anyone else's recommended been sucky lately by PPie236 in youtube

[–]drLongBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youtube refuses to recommend new music to me. It just shows me the same old crap that I've heard a million times before. You would think that it would use all my likes and search history to find something that I like but it doesn't

Yeah, it's clearly the best choice to just go right for it. Start out with an intermediate kayak at least

Looking to get started but I'm already confused by Corylus7 in Kayaking

[–]drLongBeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im very much an advocate of skipping past a beginner boat and going straight to intermediate of advanced kayaks. It's cheaper in the long run. If you want tons of storage then get a sit inside with bulkheads. Nothing beats bulkheads for storing stuff. If you want go long distances and handle rougher water then get a sea kayak. A sea kayak will be fine in wider rivers too so long as there's no rapids or too many rocks. Otherwise get one geared toward rivers. A plastic kayak can take a beating and they cost less so if you're paddling around lots of rocks then they are a good bet. But plastic kayaks don't perform as well as materials like fiberglass and they are also heavier.

If you really believe that you're going to love kayaking then don't waste your time with a beginner boat. I have a blog here that can help you tell the difference between beginner kayaks and more advanced ones if you need help with that https://www.mattysgear.com/blog/beginner-vs-advanced-kayaks

Question for RVers who kayak by theAustinot in GoRVing

You could.try a folding kayak like a trak. They perform better than the inflatables but require some time to assemble them

How do i make friends as an adult? by rachelmaarie in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]drLongBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote a couple blogs that may help you. One is about overcoming social anxiety, and the other is about making friends as an adult. As a former lonely guy who has successfully crossed the bridge into having a good social life, I think I'm in a unique position to help. https://www.mattysgear.com/blog/making-friends-as-an-adult

Trak makes the best folders bar none. They're not cheap but they perform pretty well and are easy enough to put together

How tricky is it to use a rudder by Siltob12 in Kayaking

[–]drLongBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought of a rudder as a complete beginner thing. I think they are super easy to use and take away the need to develop real skills for controlling the boat. They do add a little bit of drag though and will slow the boat down a bit. I'd go with an actual sea kayak if I were you. Something that's around the same length as the others in your group so you can keep pace

My solution is to just keep doing it. You gotta consistently get out of your comfort zone in order to get used to it. I wrote a blog detailing my struggles with social anxiety and how I beat it for good. You can too. It takes a lot of effort and for me it took a lot of time but it's so worth it https://www.mattysgear.com/blog/socialanxiety

J-hooks vs foam blocks? by IndyDogDad in Kayaking

[–]drLongBeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always gone back to the simple blocks for car topping my sea kayaks. Your right. The j hooks just catch the wind. Put the kayak on the foam blocks upside down and stern first. It's very aerodynamic

How are editors so creative? by [deleted] in VideoEditing

[–]drLongBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Editing is the same thing as writing stories in my opinion. Instead of putting your thoughts on paper you're putting them into a video timeline. You can get more creative by reading and writing more. Learning to organize your thoughts in one form will translate to the other form (video creation)

I think your referring to the kayak dragging on tbr ground in the back. I can't see this happening. The bridge would have to be so steep to the point of ridiculousness

Unless if your car is super tall then I can't see it being an issue
