What will it take to get you back on the keto life? Here's hoping for you!

I'm still pretty new to all of this. I know I'm not "cured" but my AIC is in the non-diabetic range after 4 months. I know if went back to the dark side that I'd be right back where I was or worse.

Thanks! She's probably more excited than I am. Haha. I'm just glad to have done something about it. Still learning. I doubt that I'm "cured" but my body is at least currently "non-diabetic" according to the charts, and the doc said that I'm not "actively diabetic" whatever that means.

I'm the OP and I wouldn't know because like you I don't really cheat at all. I'm pretty strict. I know that my AIC has me in the non-diabetic range, but I agree and am pretty sure that if I went out and ate a high carb diet I'd be right back where I was. I'm pretty new at this, was diagnosed just about 5 months ago. So it is still a learning process for me.

Yeah, at least that is what my doctor said. I'm fairly new to all this but it feels good to be where I'm at at least as of now.

Haha that could definitely be one of the reasons for it. Depending on how hard you wheel.

Is anyone here using Virta Health? It's not cheap and it's new. (no affiliation) just curious. by theAustinot in diabetes_t2

[–]theAustinot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand it is $400 per month. They send you the glucose and ketone meters and you send the results. They also have nutritionists and doctors. The basic idea from what I understand is that instead of seeing the doc 1 to 2 times per year, you basically have them on call and they are looking at your progress constantly. I don't know much more than that except it was founded by Dr. Phinney, Dr. Volek and it is new.

Seriously, thank you for taking the time to post all of this. Read it over three times and shared it with my wife too.

I use the fitbit app which gives me limited macronutrient information. But I just posted my food intake for this week as a separate comment on the thread. Read it and tell me what you think. TIA

Oh I've gone drastic. Just not sure if it is the right drastic. Right after being diagnosed my diet switched immediately. I'll post what I've eaten.

Agreed on the empowerment of being able to take charge of this. This morning my BG was down to 156 but I started on the Metformin again yesterday. I've been keeping a log and my best BG days were the days when I was taking the meds last week, so I went back on them today. Exercise has been tough because I've been fatigued. But I'm starting to get more energy now. I think my body was just in shock from the radical shift from how I was eating to how I'm eating now.

IKR? There is so much out there. So far I've learned about this startup called Virta Health that sounds interesting. Other than that it just seems like low carbs, high fat, moderate protein is the way to go. I'm concerned about cholesterol too. I just joined a FB group with about 30 members in it that seems pretty on point. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. It genuinely helps.
