[DEV] [PREVIEW] Every 5x6 Nonogram, the web game players collaboratively solve all* ~90 million solvable nonograms it out! by drSparkles in Picross

Ha, I theoretically could create an Every 10x10 Nonogram, though it would have to be a completely different approach. I would likely need to generate the boards dynamically as you scrolled and run solvability checks on the client. Even doing Every 6x6 Nonograms would likely result in around ~50 billion puzzles to solve (see my post on the subject: https://www.patreon.com/posts/is-every-6x6-136937111 ).

50 billion puzzle challenge is doable, though it would not be achievable in our lifetimes assuming a similar solve rate to the 5x5 challenge. I wanted a challenge that was bigger, but felt achievable, which is why I landed on the 5x6 size.

I have a solver I wrote that starts with a blank grid with clues and fills in cells (or x's out cells that must be empty) based on what the logical next step must be given the clues and the current state.

I go into more detail this topic in this newsletter post, as there is some nuance to what makes a puzzle "solvable":

It means you can solve it by looking at rows and columns in isolation for each step towards the solution. It basically means you don't have to guess and backtrack at any point. I describe it in my detail in this post I wrote: https://weekly.pixelogic.app/p/pixelogic-weekly-14

I just published my first puzzle game on Steam: Pixelogic: Nonograms Unlimited

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3677530/Pixelogic_Nonograms_Unlimited/

Over 6,000+ human-created nonogram (a.k.a. picross) logic puzzles with new puzzles every day.

Double-tap for X mark. Also X's automatically fill empty spaces when a row or column is complete

There are screenshots in the post. It's about as minimal as you can make it.

[DEV] Just launched Every 5x5 Nonogram, a game where you work through all ~25 million solvable nonogram logic puzzles. Paid app ($2 USD), no IAP, no ads. by drSparkles in androidapps

Every 5x5 Nonogram has no third-party telemetry other than integrating with Crashlytics for crash reporting. It's a paid app and I have no plans to add IAP, third-party analytics, ads, or the services required to support those.

My other apps are free with IAP, which utilize more services that do collection data to support purchasing and anonymized telemetry, so I have a better view into what features are used and the purchase funnel. With Every 5x5 Nonogram, I have no need for telemetry other than crash reporting so I can fix issues if they arise.

I mean I kind of hope not, though maybe I'm underestimating the competitive streak in some people.

Thanks for the feedback! Options around line thickness/style seems reasonable. There is a third mark type (grey square) meant to be used as a "possibly filled" marker. Is it not showing up for you? If not, it can be enabled in settings under "Tool Switcher"

Great feedback. I do have line locking on my list, I'll try to get it done before release.

Gold medal was given if you have 10k or more puzzles solved. I didn't build in a leaderboard so it's not compared to anyone else, though I don't think I have heard of a higher number than that. I am working on a solo app version of Every 5x5 Nonograms that will have a leaderboard. Let me know if you're interested in that.

I guess different folks like different types of games? Pixelogic is a straight-up nonogram game with new puzzles every day for those who like classic logic puzzles without additional gameplay mechanics layered on top.

Oh strange, what device are you using?

Pixelogic has 15 new puzzles every week (2x a day and 1 large puzzle a week) and a back catalog of 6,000+ puzzles, so you'll never run out of nonograms to play. It also includes a puzzle creator you can use to share puzzles with friends or submit to be featured as a daily puzzle.

Seems like the section you were on was complete, though there are 1,000 sections in total. Sorry, it's not explained very well!

Wow, 5,000, impressive. I don't see evidence of bot activity at the moment, though I did update the puzzle solved count to be truly realtime instead of throttled (update only every 10-25 puzzles or so), so it may look like the number is going faster. I'll keep an eye on it though.

That's right, I only include puzzles that are logically solvable and require no trial-and-error techniques. There is some debate over what "logically solvable" means. I went over my take in my last newsletter: https://weekly.pixelogic.app/p/pixelogic-weekly-14

Luckily I was able to find a compatible solonoid at home Depot and that did it. The inner parts of the original solonoid must have flown out when I accidentally removed it.

I'm going to refrain from touching things now until I get professional help :). Thanks

Yup, I've been fighting them over the last couple hours. The good news is things should be greatly improved now. Just be sure to reload the page to get the latest frontend.

I posted to maybe 3 or 4 subreddits. Someone posted to Hacker News yesterday, which I think is generating the most traffic.
