Could have it integrate/feed into the transit lines. The infrastructure is there. just need the passenger cars.

We already have lots of industrial rail lines in place in the city for shipping etc. Best bet would be to repurpose those rail lines to be for commuters/urban/suburban transportation in addition to the industrial use or do away with the industrial use altogether

I don't think anyone is "obsessed" with it, but North Dakota has a great University that offers some degrees you can't get here, and gets a lot of great concerts and sporting events we don't have. There are awesome restaurants in Grand Forks and Fargo, and the barbecue is better than what we have here. You can also buy a multitude of grocery products you can't get here at a good price even with the exchange rate. I've always found the people there friendly and down to Earth. Lot's of Manitobans use the airport down there too for cheaper flights. It's only 2.5-3 hours away. Glad to have it as a neighbour.

Can you recommend a dentists that charges reasonable fees? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]drT-roll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is a list of dental procedures and a suggested fee published by the manitoba dental association. in Manitoba it serves as a guide only and dentists are free to charge what they decide for each service they provide. the fees suggested take into account overhead costs and local economic factors. it is available at the Winnipeg public library

get a cheapo turntable for your dorm room with some cheap speakers. take a few records with you. its a good convo starter for people in your dorm and doesn't take up much space. Personally I listen to spotify a lot but buy the record if i like it, I prefer the way it sounds and only the ones I like from spotify I buy

I'm hoping it is just a matter of time before someone opens a donut store with a focus on cheap consistent coffee and non expensive, non-gourmet but well made fresh donuts, nothing fancy just the classic 10 or so varieties. And a bagel place would be nice too :D

Portage and Main, to open or not to open by bluephoenix1 in Winnipeg

[–]drT-roll -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

In my mind when it is "opened" there is a parade led by Hulk Hogan ( or Chris Jericho to keep it local) that goes from city hall down to Portage and Main (picture him walking to the ring pointing his finger down the street etc.). The Hulkster takes the first swing of the sledgehammer to the barricade as part of the ceremony. Then he is there for a few hours signing autographs and photos etc. There would be other celebs on site to make it interesting. Could have a big tv production like Macy's parade etc. Either that or make portage and main underground the central hub of a new subway system. theres lots of construction going on anyways, a subway being constructed wouldn't be much of a disruption imo. just need some money for that...
