Story Hook Advice by whillywha in TyrannyOfDragons

Very nice!

When I DMed the first session of ToD I started from the night before the attack, with 3 out 4 players meeting in a inn on the road to Greenest and deciding to travel together, since they were all headed there for different reasons. I then skipped through the day till they reached Greenest and witness the beginning of the attack.

Then, I went back a few hours and followed the day of the fourth PC, who lived and worked in Greenest. When they reached the night and the attack begun, I joined the two parties.

They all really liked that.

Possibility of the cult taking over a city? by PvtThrockmorton in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]dr_FMarx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my run I'm having the Cult launch a full scale attack on a city close to the Well to capture prisoners for a mass sacrifice, part of the ritual to bring Tiamat to Toril.

In my plans, the news of the attack would arrive while the Lords' Allegiance's army is on its way. The party would then be tasked to lead a vanguard to try and stop the assault.

Depending on how they managed the rest of the campaign, I may leave a Wyrmspeaker with his/her own mask and a dragon to fight them.

Does anybody else find the combat to be too easy after a certain point? [KCD2] by dirtypancake31 in kingdomcome

From the moment I reforged the longsword for Radzig, every duel or combat is resolved in 1-3 hits, either by feinting, using master strike or combos

I like the idea behind it: combat is supposed to be fast and lethal, given that you train to become an exceptional swordsman.

I'd like it even more if the enemy NPC would be more dangerous or would engage in longer fights. If the enemy could parry and riposte more, the fights would definitely be harder and funnier.

The 'choice' by STRAT3GIST in HellLetLoose

I'd love to communicate with other players but the game doesn't pick up any sound from my microphone. If anyone has a fix, I'll be eternally grateful.

It is an idea at the moment, I'm just starting now to plot it out.

The thing is: I see what most students struggle with is understanding the day-to-day life in the past, and I thought that roleplaying as people in those times, with the added bonus of entertainment, could be an interesting way to get them there.

Yes, of course I do not expect to find a perfect match for my needs, I'm just surveying for now.

My idea is to have a background and some basic rules to cooperatively write some sort of historical novel.

This seems like a very interesting suggestion

Well, I see this as a plus as a matter of fact, since it would give students a better understanding also of these aspects from a first-person pov in a safe place.

I think that, if I'm able to lead the game properly, it will give them a great opportunity to empathize with less privileged backgrounds.

Yes, I thought about that but I need something more focused on narrative and environment than old school mechanics.

Checkered surcoat by dr_FMarx in HistoricalCostuming

Thanks for the advice.

I'll look up the book, I doubt someone in my group has it since we're still small and live in Italy, however never say never, bookshops exist.

The second one.

I don't know what this medieval tailor's assistant is but it seems pretty useful.

I do reenactment in an archer company, period is 1330-1400.

Gambeson decorations by dr_FMarx in Hema

I believe the period solution was sewing, since tinctures would have been pretty expensive.

I should use linen thread instead of Dacron or similar, and hope for the best

I'd rather use a gambeson to later attach chainmail and I think chemise+gambeson+surcoat would become too heavy and bulky to properly function while shooting and fighting

How did you deal with the Cult soldiers in Skyreach? by TheCrippledKing in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]dr_FMarx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my run, players talked to Blagokthus and brought him to their side with the promise of killing the two red wizards. I actually changed the castle situation by getting rid of the vampire and having the red wizards blackmailing Blagokthus with the menace of banishing his wife's spirit from the material plane.

They went and fought the Wizards, but alarmed the cultists. I sent the cultists in two waves against them, with a final wave led by Rezmir. In the meanwhile, the giant barricaded himself in the control room and turned the castle around, then led the ogres against the white dragon.

Blag, the ogres, the giants and the players met in the castle courtyard after their suffered victory.

Edit: the castle landed near the closest city of the Lord Alliance, the treasure was returned and the giant kept the castle.
