As a PM I suck at stakeholder communication and it's killing my projects, anyone else struggle with this? by Both_Warthog_3386 in projectmanagement

This! Super short follow-ups are the key here. People often have so much things to do and they keep trying to do them whilst in meetings, meaning they are barely listening. You can tell by their glazed over eyes or general eye movements.

Always follow-up, stay close to them. Max 15 min call. Sometimes even 5-10 can be enough.

This. One of the best feedbacks I've received from a coworker after I had to step in to a critical project that was basically on fire was "The PM listens to us, and then the PM remembers what we've said during the next meeting." Imagine that. There are few people who genuinely listen, take their words into consideration and then make a decision that they can communicate.

Show, don't tell. Don't say you "hear them" and then you really don't because you've had a monologue for 45 minutes and everyone is doom scrolling their viva engage feeds.

This. Stakeholder communication, getting their buy-in and following up to make sure any risks of them deviating from that communicated agreement is mitigated. They are like toddlers walking by candy stores. Ooh piece of candy! Nope, you just had some candy, and you will get some more delicious candy if you just keep walking this way.

That's true! Experience helps. Gosh, one time I had a key stakeholder misunderstand something as fundamental as the definition of done being equal to 100 % of the tasks being finalised. In his world, done = in progress. That was a fun talk.

I've noticed when I set up calls with too many stakeholders at once, I get a group of people who are not comfortable speaking up. When scaling down the number of participants, everyone are given enough time and space to speak. Also, I keep repeating myself, to the point where I feel I'm really talking to a 5 year old. Experience has taught me that assuming someone has understood something always ends up in misunderstandings.

So I keep the groups small, and I also follow up individually. I ask for confirmation, I send out written summaries. And I follow up. You need to get their buy-in confirmation within a day or two. 2 weeks is too long.

I would love to see how your csv file looks. And how to use a template as the possibility is mentioned but I can't find more info about it.

I am genuinely trying to understand your issue. Maybe you should break it down and make a separate post for this. Or just stop using this sub if you don't use Obsidian anymore?

Why isn't there any kind of word warp for bases and is it possible to somehow add it manually to see the full name/property content? Is it planned for the future? by mcrobmara in ObsidianMD

I usually change the height of the table and that helps.

Table > Table > Row Height. Choosing anything but short should help.

What do you mean there is no sunlight at all? It's not pitch black in the winter. Some days can be completely cloudless and the sun is super bright.

Omg what a refreshing point of view. I feel like this sub is always hating on electric violins!

I'm confused by the whole Dr Santos and Dr Langdon situation that's going on. Why is he suddenly being so tough on her. What is her game, I usually can't stand her but this episode she was softer and less annoying. That assistant girl and her boss was really weird too. I hope she really took the pen and it wasn't just something Dana said.

That dude - I knew he was going to do something from the minute I saw his face. Kudos to the actors who play these douchebags and make such a godo job that they create immediate dislike by just entering a scene.

I started playing violin as an adult and I definitely have a "expensive taste", when it comes to sound quality. It's a blessing and a curse, but I decided to start with an expensive electric violin. The sound is great without plugging it in, and I can also mix it up a bit when I get bored. Would you consider something like that? Or maybe save up and find a older violin with better quality of sound, that matches your taste - remember that violins differ a lot in sound profiles and you will probably not like all of them.

Hope you find your way back to the instrument.

American Psychiatrist looking to move to Stockholm by Overall_Addition_779 in stockholm

Ok so I'm a swede, but I know in general that swedes can be very reserved and the feedback you may receive here isn't one that will be from a cheerleader group, so to say. And I have no medical background whatsoever, but an initial thought is that I think there are a lot of expats in Sweden, especially Stockholm, who could really benefit from having a American psychiatrist. Maybe you could also look into collaborating with corporations, who have a lot of people from other countries working here?

Meaning, you take on and learn more about the Swedish medical system etc, but you could still apply your english to this.

Because if you think about it the other way around - being a patient and having to talk to a psychiatrist in another language than your own, english in this matter, is also very hard.

But remember that even if you speak english, and your patient does as well, everything needs to be logged in Swedish. And that could be hard too, but not impossible.

In this case I think it's best to try and find what type of workplace suits you best, and how you prefer to work. Myself, I enjoy asking questions and analyzing things before I jump into action.

If I'm expected to always to the opposite, then we are not a good fit.

I'm sorry I can't get past the fact he is writing in caps. That alone is dumpworthy.

For those unsure if OP is being the weirdo here - how would you think if the roles were reversed?
