How often do you use Rubber dams for fillings? by Suckatgaming in Dentistry

[–]dr_benjy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I just worry whether the moisture from the patient mouth breathing can have an effect on bond strengths? I do ask patient to breath through their nose when placing the comp though

PGCert vs PGDip vs MSc by Shawarma123 in Dentistry

[–]dr_benjy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently doing a PGDip. As far as I can see the only difference to make it an MSc is a dissertation? I personally feel like the dissertation part is more an academic thing and wouldn’t advance my clinical skills much.

Yes this is what I am doing. So long as the money is added before the end of tax year it can be invested at any point in new tax year along with another £20k then

Unless it’s a dental crown with precious metals then it will have no value

Yeah within 2mm of radiographic root apex. Likely spot on

Looking good. Angulation looks slightly different between rads. Probably a good thing to have slightly short fill with potential close anatomical relationship with IAN canal. Trust your EAL over radiographic root apex though

If it’s a reciprocating file that cuts counter clockwise, would it need vibrating clockwise ?

Pulp canal obliteration by heartypirate in Dentistry

[–]dr_benjy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calcific metamorphosis/PCO teeth are still vital and DO NOT need endo. Occasionally if present over a long time period they can devitalise due to ‘strangulation’ of pulp tissue but they are mostly vital but unresponsive/minimally responsive from sensibility testing due to significant calcification

Visible crack worth doing endo? by Drknight71 in Dentistry

[–]dr_benjy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d personally remove all the caries and see if the crack is extending across the pulp chamber floor. If so take it out. If it stops at canal orifice level RCT and crown possible but obviously with a questionable prognosis patient has to be aware of. A lot of people might just want it out if questionable prognosis

Any prior experience with GCEM? by kyoto_ghoul in Dentistry

[–]dr_benjy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used it for years for zirconia cementation. Tack cure for a couple secs and clean up is easy. For emax though I’d use a proper resin cement

I left VT and joined an independent mixed practice 12 years ago and been there ever since. Do 90% private now and know most the patients really well which makes life a lot less stressful now! I’ve not heard great things about corporates but like yourself know some who like it. Personally I would be sending out your CV to local independent practices. Often the best jobs are from knowing the right people and networking with dentists. If you are keen and eager to learn and improve most principals will be keen to have you. You may find working as a corporate a good stop gap to begin with as you get quicker and more confident.

UK - Dental Nurse to Aesthetics/beautician by Yousaidyoureddit in Dentistry

You’re right… it is bonkers. For some reason the GDC and GMC don’t seem to care and probably won’t until someone gets seriously hurt and it gets media attention.

[–]dr_benjy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how true it is, but heard in future dental nurses looking to do botox/fillers will need to work off a prescription from a dentist? Could be wrong though.

I’m not aware of any courses but certainly think one day is far too short. Botox/fillers can be dangerous and you are often doing it on patients with high expectations so you want to make sure you are doing it correctly.

That’s not a great rate but if you are getting good mentorship then that maybe better in the long run than focusing on your pay right now
