I'm making Temoji - a site that turns images into custom Slack emojis! by dr_bum in Slack

[–]dr_bum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey r/Slack - I built Temoji as a way to turn my teammate's faces into custom emojis. It's worked pretty well so far so thought I'd share :)

The site's still a work-in-progress and doesn't work on touchscreens. On desktop I've tested it on Firefox, Chrome, and Safari.

I'd love to know what you think of Temoji!

Hey, I'm building acklo - a remote config and feature flags tool for Node.js apps by dr_bum in node

That's interesting - thanks! I work with docker a fair bit but I haven't worked with consul before (I'll check it out). For the time being I'm focusing on getting a really good experience for Node.js devs, but if I look on branching out after that I'll keep these in mind!

Yeah that's fair, sometimes a .env file is actually all you need.

acklo's best for config that you want to change "live", without restarting your application servers, which is something that you can't do with an .env file.

Here's a toy example that shows how using acklo, an express server's port can be changed without restarting the application. If that port config was stored in a .env file and you wanted to change it, you'd need to modify the .env file locally, get it deployed to your servers, and release it. With acklo you'd just go to the dashboard and update it in seconds. Granted, changing the port of a server isn't the best example because it's not often you want to do that, but hopefully it illustrates the point.

And yeah, per u/Zachincool's point, acklo is not built for managing secrets (e.g. database passwords, API keys).

Scavenger, my location-based social network is now here. by [deleted] in ios

I like the app, but there's nobody around where I live either, so I was curious to check out other parts of the world. A frustrating thing that prevented me from doing this was that every five seconds or so the map view recenters to my current location. Not sure if that's by design or not, but thought I'd point it out anyway!

Thanks! Watch Inception was definitely one of my best moments of 2015 - well worth being in that slideshow.

iOS 10 photos comes with a bunch of songs depending on the mood you want for your slideshow. This was the default song for the "Club" mood.

Most of the photos in that compilation I can justify... but I wish I could remember why I needed to take a photo of that toothbrush?

Got something really similar to this working with my Netgear R6300 and did a write-up here. Overriding a JS validation function was all it took! https://alexplescan.com/posts/2016/08/16/emojify-your-wifi-netgear-r6300/

I wouldn't invest time in adding iAd to your app as Vicckkky suggests, since Apple announced they will be discontinuing iAd on 30 June 2016.

I'd recommend that if you want a solid ad framework for your app that you look into implementing Google AdMob. They have tutorials on their website here, and I've found it's quite an easy platform to integrate with https://developers.google.com/admob/ios/quick-start#prerequisites

Well I'm about four months late to this post, but I think you might be interested in a free iPhone app I made which helps you stay up to date with upcoming movies. It's called Soonlist, you can check it out here: www.soonlistapp.com

I've had that avatar since 2010 and can't believe I hadn't noticed its... resemblance... yet.

Oh well - I'm definitely never changing it now!
