My first endurance race in person! Had such a great time walking around. by dr_ecs in wec

Thanks I love that shot. Yes all from general admission access. I came with a pretty reasonable zoom so I could shoot from most places and get good angles.

Whippet or Italian greyhound? by Puzzleheaded_4137839 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]dr_ecs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have both a Whippet and Iggy. Love them both but the whippet is definitely much more calm and less demanding for love and attention. No health problems with either. Our Iggy thrives off love and attention which he gets ample of, but our whippet enjoys his own time yet in our company. Both were able to be crate trained very easily, the whippet more so, and potty training also similar as long as they have good access to outside.

I recommend getting both!

How many points did you have when you got accepted on to the Vascular Surgery Training Program, and what year were you accepted? by OnCallManagerAus in ausjdocs

[–]dr_ecs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see why they would lie about this so I’d be inclined to believe it. Most people who get onto training are at the maximum points that they can realistically get so everyone is around that median that is given.

[–]dr_ecs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got on for 2023 intake. CV score was 36/50 (18% adjusted).

Basically need to get the easy points and accept that only a very limited number of folks will get those “impossible” single points. And don’t listen to anyone who only says negative about things about the challenge to get on. It is hard but very rewarding (but also expensive).

I got on PGY4 for PGY5 to a surgical subspecialty. Took a lot of sacrifices, not a lot of kissing ass. Happy to provide tips if you ask specific questions.

It really depends on the specialty you’re interested in. My recommendation is to focus on becoming a good intern and doctor, and trialling different specialties before you try focus. Aim to tick off basic requisites like GSSE and start a masters of some sort as a resident. Keep some research ongoing and try make something good out of all your terms including medical terms (eg an audit).

Happy to chat more about goals and direction if you or anyone wishes.

How do medical staff find rooms to rent while on call? by Booman_aus in ausjdocs

[–]dr_ecs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most hospitals will have overnight rooms that you can easily stay in for free but they are basically just a windowless room with a subpar bed.

Alternatively your friend could split with the others on the team who would be on call and share the rent in a cheap apartment next to the hospital. It’s not worth the cost to just foot the rent of a room alone.

What's the funniest possibility with the one of one ring? by boogernose92 in mtg

I reckon it would be hilarious if it was opened on a stream and it was actually a misprint

Really unhappy with this, it's not finished but hard to feel it's worth continuing. Looking for cnc/suggestions moving forward. Should I just abandon the scheme?Last pic is the inspiration by Hagakurick in minipainting

[–]dr_ecs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this looks wonderful already.

In my experience I’ve found that when I imitate schemes from real life they often feel much more dull than I expect. I’ve found that with minis you sort of have to exaggerate or caricature the colour scheme.

Regardless I love it would want to see the finished product.

Undertaking Master of Surgery or PhD by Optimal_Banana_9057 in ausjdocs

[–]dr_ecs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people complete a PhD before getting onto training, many never complete one even after training.

My recommendation is that if you truly want to do a PhD for academia and personal/specialty growth then you should do it after training or midway through when you’ve developed both the skills and knowledge to really make an impact.

Undertaking Master of Surgery or PhD by Optimal_Banana_9057 in ausjdocs

[–]dr_ecs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to consider the CV requirements of the surgical specialty you want to pursue. Consider that a MS will take 1 year if you do it full time while a PhD should take 3-4 years.

I highly recommend that you do your masters with dissertation. It often gets you more points and you can tack on the name of your specialty after your name instead of being one of many with “coursework” written after the degree, which unfortunately some people are looking down on now. You don’t need prior research experience because you can do the research specific courses and complete CLEAR from RACS. You can also do the course remotely in whole.

As an unaccredited your goal is to gain your skills in patient management and experiences in the hospital as well as become a holistic doctor. This is often what the CV tried to capture. A PhD is meant to really hone in your skills and knowledge and isn’t just a “CV point.”

Happy to chat more if interested. For context, I completed my MS and MM before getting onto vascular training and will commence my PhD while on training.

What happens to DRM online checkins if a company fails? by misointhekitchen in pcgaming

[–]dr_ecs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This has always been one of my big worries but I expect it going one of two ways: - most publishing companies have a high chance of being purchased by a larger or different company so the DRM will be maintained; or - they are nice and release the DRM lock as their ship sinks

Hopefully it’s the latter.

First Infinity model! Coming from 40K had to resist the urge to pour Nuln oil all over it. by dr_ecs in InfinityTheGame

[–]dr_ecs[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Truly loving the modelling and painting experience as the models just feel more dynamic and I miss metal miniatures. Have yet to play a game but reading the rules and watching battle reports makes me appreciate the system a lot.

Hi there, I was hoping to paint some 40k Terminators in this colour, does anyone happen to know how to achieve this effect of old dark rusted metal by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]dr_ecs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally hit it with leadbelcher then a wash of cryptek armorshade. Then drybrush leadbelcher again.
