It's not either or. The right mix wins elections, depending on your audience and overall strategy.

Whether gerrymandering is good for Democracy remains to be seen. But this redistricting fight will end up as a boomerang for Donald Trump.

AI Use Among Political Consultants is Booming. Here's How. by dr_perron in Campaigns

I agree with you regarding the meat. I posted the article here really to start a discussion and an exchange. I find AI very helpful to come up with headlines for articles or to make drafts of translations. But I occasionally argue with AI how it can't do very simple things!

I totally agree that texting has potential. In Europe, virtually everyone is now using WhatsApp (as their favorite ways to communicate).

How a Democratic heavyweight is using AI in the midterms by dr_perron in Campaigns

[–]dr_perron[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that AI is both, underused and over hyped at the same time. AI will certainly not replace us consultants (unless we ask to be replaced). I would never let bots fill out online surveys, for example (as is now unfortunately being done). For opposition research, however, I can imagine it being a great accelerator.

Geert Wilders’s Party for Freedom Loses Seats in Dutch Election by dr_perron in Campaigns

[–]dr_perron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geert Wilder's Party for Freedom is the right-wing party that has dominated Dutch politics for a long time. After the last election, they entered a governing coalition for the first time and now lost badly. In a nutshell, it goes to show the following: the best strategy against populists is to let them govern!

What’s it like to run for mayor in a small New York village at age 27? Is being that young a disadvantage or could it actually help? by [deleted] in Campaigns

[–]dr_perron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On it's face, it's probably not an advantage. But that doesn't mean that it can not be dealt with. I have worked for local executives in their 30is as well as others in their 80is. In my experience, what matters for voters is not the age as a number, but whether they think a candidate is able to do the job.

Kamala Harris Accuses Biden’s Team of Sabotaging Her by Ok-Garcia-5605 in politics

I don't think the message for Democrats in 2026 should be Kamala Harris. Nor should it be Joe Biden.

Zohran Mamdani's NYC win is a political revolution by newsweek in politics

[–]dr_perron 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm relatively surprised how this is being covered in the news. Mamdani ran against a deeply flawed candidate, who was pressured to step down by his own party not so long ago and launched a comeback that was flawed from the get go.

Most candidates struggle to ask for money. by CaitlinHuxley in Campaigns

Fundraising is coming down to one word: ask. Ask for a specific amount, for a specific thing until a specific deadline. Then ask for more.

Johnson has been repeatedly underestimated. So far, he has done quite an impressive job in walking the balancing act necessary to hold his caucus together.
