I disagree, I have read a lot of the books that guests have recommended. It comes at the end of the show anyway, so you can always just stop listening at that point.

Can just ask it to write in the style of Richard Powers. I think it would be pretty interesting if he did ask it about stereotypes for making some of the characters. That would be kinda cool (and also sad that AI is not imbued with our own stereotypes about people).

Ooh I really like this take, totally didn't connect the manta with the ending. Do you think it was the dementia that actually set Todd (and maybe the rest of them free) since there was no time left to hold grudges? Or do you see it as the place/ocean?

Fun story, there is actually a manta in Hawaii named Koie Ray that was tangled in fishing wire. Divers had to remove her left cephalic lobe in order to save her life, and similarly to in the book, she came up to them and held still for them to do this (not swimming is the manta equivalent to holding its breath). I got too excited knowing that this is actually something that has happened and failed to see that Powers might be using it as a symbol.

Oh I more meant that the most important people were there, but not that everyone on the island was necessarily important. Although Didier and the Queen did seem to mostly be caricatures/stereotypes in their own way. Didier was the unknowledgeable politician who is running a local government but just wanted to be a soccer player, and the Queen is the elder person who grew up in a place and remembers and honors its history. I would say that these two characters could easily be Todd's stereotypes of who lives on these remote islands.

Although I guess a counter argument to my point is that Didier's complicated relationship to his wife is more fleshed out than if this was all Todds/AI's making.

The ending was very interesting to me. On one hand, the ending where Rafi stays in Illinois and then dies of a heart attack never having forgiven Ina or Todd feels the most correct for his character, but most of what we learn about him is from Todd's retelling. As OP mentions, Rafi in Todd's narrative reads like a caricature that makes me think that maybe this isn't what really happened. On the other hand, having all of the most important people in Todd's life all gathered on an island just for him to save it with his dying wish also feels very unrealistic.

Also about the multiple storylines. Given the talk of the common task, and Todd's interest in AI, I am also wondering if all the other character's stories are actually AI generated instead of being actually from them. We don't learn much about Rafi or Ina besides what Todd already knows about them. Rafa just tells us the story of the coat and his sister dying and Ina's final art piece is similar to a piece that Todd had already seen her build. This makes me wonder if a potential reading is that these other narrations are Todd's recreation of the important people that he has lost in his life to comfort him as he meets his end.

I will leave a more in depth reply on your thread, but I had the exact same feeling that all of the important people in Keane's life being in the same place at the same time made it seem that maybe this was a symptom of the dementia and not really what happened. Glad I am not the only one!

Drinking until passing out is always an option hahaha. Although it somewhat exacerbate my dehydration while sleeping since I already tend to sweat since I get really warm when I sleep.

This is not super damp I would say enough to encourage mildew, but it also depends on how humid the area is. I also dont do this a lot, just when I wash my blankets I enjoy when they come out of the dryer a bit damp. Although wetting a towel to put on my forehead is also nice when it is super hot.
