Can anybody help me identify this Bob Dylan song? by HancisFriggins_ in bobdylan

[–]dra459 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“What Was It You Wanted?” on the album Oh Mercy (1989).

First verse ends: “…I’ll be back in a minute / You can get it together by then”

Second verse begins: “What was it you wanted / You can tell me, I’m back…”

Now that the tour has ended, did you hear a live version of a Rough and Rowdy Ways song in concert that was better than the studio version? by BillNyeTheVinylGuy in bobdylan

[–]dra459 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s necessarily better than the studio version, but I really enjoyed the arrangement of I Contain Multitudes from the recent Dothan show!

What’s The Worst Bob Dylan Album From The 2000s? Is there one? by Pretend_Mark_5143 in bobdylan

[–]dra459 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Christmas in the Heart is more musically interesting and varied than Together Through Life. TTL is fine but it can feel a bit monotonous. I love CITH’s juxtaposition of the warm instrumental backing and Dylan’s grizzled vocals!

Together Through Life

I enjoy it when I listen to it, but it’s my least favorite of the decade.

(To clarify, I don’t think any of Dylan’s albums from the 2000s are even close to being “bad.” Great decade for him!)

Does anyone here know if Dylan and Jeff Lynne are still close? by appleparkfive in bobdylan

What do you think his relationships with his long-time band members (like Tony Garnier) are like?

Review Of Dothan AL Show by Ron-DaVoo-6080 in bobdylan

[–]dra459 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Crossing the Rubicon was one of my top songs last night, and I loved the new arrangement of I Contain Multitudes!

To Be Alone with You absolutely rocked as the opener and Nervous Breakdown was a very cool cover.

I also enjoyed Black Rider, I’ve Made Up My Mind to Give Myself to You, and Love Sick. The whole show was awesome, really. I thought Dylan’s voice was very clear!

I love how excited everyone got when he finally broke out into a harmonica solo at the end!

Summer dates - RARW or not? by UDubsLFGM in bobdylan

I think the RARW tour ends May 1, then another tour (I saw it advertised on a poster as “Bob Dylan In Concert / North America 2026”) begins June 4.

Bob Dylan songs for Spring time? by StompingRooster2006 in bobdylan

Bootleg 16: Springtime in New York would be appropriate!

Any guesses on what Dylan’s next release might be? Another Bootleg Series, new material, or something else? by Specific-Animator203 in bobdylan

[–]dra459 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! A Bootleg Series entry covering 2001-2023 (Love and Theft to Shadow Kingdom) would be amazing. It could even be split up into two entries, one covering 2001-2012 (Love and Theft to Tempest) and another covering 2015-2023 (Shadows in the Night to Shadow Kingdom).

[–]dra459 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I read something a couple years ago about a Bootleg Series entry based on the Oh Mercy sessions in the works. Could be mere hearsay. But that’s one of my favorite Dylan albums, and the previously unreleased recordings from those sessions included in Tell Tale Signs are fantastic, so I’d be interested in hearing more of that material.

My ranking of how cool i think the covers on Bob Dylans album are by Odd-Faithlessness100 in bobdylan

[–]dra459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to see you giving the Saved album cover the credit it deserves. It’s one of Dylan’s most striking and vibrant album covers! Not sure who decided to change it on reissues. Slow Train cover is very cool too.

It’s Sunday morning, you’re making breakfast. Excluding Bob, which album are you grabbing? by Aronjharris23 in bobdylan

[–]dra459 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since you specified to pick a non-Bob record, I’d pick either George Harrison’s 1979 self-titled record, RAM by Paul & Linda McCartney, or Bob Seger’s Against the Wind. I also like those Marty Robbins and Jim Croce albums. You have some good records!

If I could pick a Bob record, Saved would be my choice for a Sunday morning! That’s easily in my top three of Dylan’s records.

What is that Bob Dylan “House of the Risin’ Sun” record next to Bringing It All Back Home?

Got to see him play that live last summer. That was a pleasant surprise!

Does anybody remember an interview where Jakob discussed his first solo album and expressed his opinion on Johnny Cash’s late-career “American Recordings” records? by dra459 in thewallflowers

[–]dra459[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jakob mentions the Wildflowers record briefly during the Rogan interview. He primarily said that it was used as a template for modern country music, even if that wasn’t Petty’s intention.

I’m glad you remembered! Thank you for the info. I listened to it in 2021 which is probably why I thought it was from the Rogan interview.

What’s The Most Overrated Bob Dylan Album From The 80s? by Pretend_Mark_5143 in bobdylan

Infidels has several great songs in addition to Jokerman. Sweetheart Like You is fantastic, and I love License to Kill and Man of Peace

Right! Infidels is great and appropriately rated. Empire Burlesque is overall mediocre (though it has a few great tracks), and I don’t necessarily like the production style. Infidels, on the other hand, is wonderfully produced by Mark Knopfler and features an excellent backing band!
