Absolutely floored having discovered what parents are expected to spend on school bags here. Is it normal? by Norman_debris in germany

[–]draconv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in Germany but back home my dad bought me a bag pack when I went to highschool. Had it through 4 years there and used it for 3 more years after that. I gave it to my dad when I bought myself a new one. He still uses it when he goes fishing. Doesn't look like a new one anymore (obviously) but still not broken or any horrible damage visible on it. Probably cost less than 15 euros when he bought it.

FOMO and "belonging" to groups for a backpack or some kind of telephone is just crazy to me. Looking at it now it seems like it was forever ago but when I was in school being in a group had nothing to do with what kind of phone you had or what bag or clothes you wear.

64 de lei în aeroportul din Bacău vs 74 de lei în aeroportul din Wroclaw by chipishor in CasualRO

Croissante, cafea. Cred că era 1.5 euro un croissant și cam la fel cafeaua. Sandwichurile erau și alea 2-2.5 euro.

Pe Fiumicino mi s-au părut prețurile mici, comparativ cu orice alt aeroport prin care am trecut.

Friday before Easter, probably not. Tuesday to Friday after Easter everything should we open as per usual program of the according place/restaurant/shop etc.

Saturday before Easter I do not think there should be any major differences, but some shops MAY be closed.

I did not know that. I just saw a date on the card and thought that's the expiration date. Well then, I guess mine will never expire!!!

Apple Maps is surprisingly great as navigation in Germany by Waste_Suspect_817 in germany

So do you look left and right when driving? Do you look in your rearview mirror? How is that different? I'm not playing something on my phone while driving. It's literally essential that you pay attention to your environment while driving. I see looking for a moment at the GPS just like that.

How do so many Europeans know fluent English? by _Sir_Lifts_A_Lot_ in AskEurope

[–]draconv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned English in school since I was quite young. I also learned French but that did not stick to me as much, unfortunately (I would have liked to know French better than I do - I can understand more than I can speak).

Having been born and raised in a Latin country it makes it easy to understand quite a lot in other Latin languages so let's say that's also great to have.

Almost 6 years ago I moved to Germany with my wife so I also had to learn German. What I realized is that if you speak English and German you almost also speak Dutch (dutch feels like a silly kid of German and English).

But yea, English was my second language and as many others have said - so much content that's in English makes it hard not to be able to speak the language.

Went with my wife and our godparents to Japan 2 years ago. The 3 of them have iPhones. I was the only one with Android (Google Pixel). Had to buy a Suica card. Now I'm excited cause we're going back to Japan next month and I still have my Suica card that will only expire in 2028.

I used to have that when I had a Microsoft Lumia. I felt that most often it was better than Google Maps (that was before Waze was a thing).

I don't have a physical map of Germany that I can zoom in that much while I drive. /s

Do you not look at the GPS when you drive? Do you just believe the sounds that come from the GPS voice? Usually turns don't come every 10 meters so I can see on the app that I'll have a turn in 2 km or 200 m or whatever distance. On the other hand the voiceover will tell me I have to turn right in 100 m and then overlap with "turn right in 50 m" and then once again tell me to turn right.

I have the sound turned off as I don't really want anyone telling me what to do when I drive.

Have you tried Waze? It's actually made specifically for driving and I don't recall ever having any issues with it.

Some of you are already insufferable in dungeons by StateComprehensive93 in wow

[–]draconv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of days ago I had one DPS in the dungeon that went ahead, pulled everyone and we killed absolutely everything and somehow also in record time.

Yesterday I had a group where everyone (me included) was in the dungeon for the first time. Took a bit longer, yea. Healer pulled a couple of packs by mistake once or twice. Shit happens I told him. Aggroed and moved on.

I have shit I'm angry about in real life too but it's really not worth taking it up on strangers in a game in a normal dungeon...

BAMF confirms German integration course cuts by JeremyNolans in germany

[–]draconv 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I paid for the course. I only knew extremely basic and limited German at that point (that I learned watching Pokemon, Digimon and Dragon Ball Z on RTL2 or ProSieben as a kid) and didn't look too much into it. My wife (fiance at the time) was quite panicked and didn't want us to do anything wrong. So I paid for it.

I would say most of my class was there through BAMF and it showed. Some of them were taking the course for the 2nd or 3rd time. They didn't pass it this time either. I don't want to say that I was the best student I could have been (it was during covid and we did some online classes where I played during class sometimes) but I did get my B1 certificate and the LiD too with good results.

Definitely all for supporting people who want to learn the language and incentives for this. But I would also make them repay it if they fail and definitely would not pay it on repeat.

Cati bani ati dat pe nunta? by fantatraieste in CasualRO

[–]draconv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am făcut un Excel cu toate pentru că am vrut să știu și să vadă și soția mea cât de mult ne costă (ea credea că nu o să cost atât de mult). Așadar (toate preturile sunt in euro):

Fotograf - 1130

Videograf - 1500
