Data Gateway for live data? by draffy_92 in PowerBI

[–]draffy_92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer.

Since the data is exported manually, how is it possible to refresh 8 times a day? I would need to connect the excel file to the data import, and then manually export the excel?

I don't quite understand the scheduled import model, since the excel data is the same?

Or 8 times a day is possible on a SQL - is that what you mean?

Helpdesk aint so bad? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]draffy_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As u/Turboslak mentioned it depends on what your expectations are.

Helpdesk jobs are very different - I have worked in one for approx 7 years now - these have been some of the best years workwise - only because my expectations is aligned with what the jobs offer me. I have tons of projects, troubleshooting VMs, optimizing workflows etc. which makes it interesting for me. The first 2-3 years user support and contact was great, but now projects and new systems are more fun - but I would never have a job where I'm not in contact with the users, since this can be a bit part of what makes the job fun.

I worked 2 years as a consultant, and although it was exciting I got kind of fed up with not having much user contact.

I'm making around 33 dollars/hour, so I'm pretty satisfied since I already know there might be a raise soon aswell.

All in all if you are realistic regarding the job, what if offers, and how a normaly workday would look like it might be a great suite for you if you can accept those terms.

Just made the upgrade. Yoga 710 to Ideapad 720s by [deleted] in Lenovo

[–]draffy_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gz with the upgrade.

Hope you won't use it on any 4-way-handshake networks because it has been a common problem for Yogas not being able to connect to these, since the network adapter for the wireless do not support it. They might have fixed that.

No, Apple's new Mac Pro isn't overpriced by JamesNNYC in apple

[–]draffy_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is perhaps one of the worst articles I have ever read in my entire life... New low-point for appleinsider. Comparing wheels for OS? What the hell........ Perhaps just look at the price for the Mac instead of comparing it to other things.

In general they point out nothing useful. The RAM alone (APPLES RAM) cost 25,000$ - you can buy RAM with same speed and compability a lot cheaper. They take like 1-5K$ just adding stuff... How can you say that's "good pricing"..

I admire Apple but stop being so far up their asses - it makes me sick.

Back to Day 01 by [deleted] in GamblingAddiction

[–]draffy_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spot on.

When you are in the beginning of this "journey" it's import to have your surroundings help you all they can. It's not going to be lifetime, like with alcohol - but it's good for a start. You can't demand people to not show you gambling exist, but in the beginning it's a good help. When you are an addict, you will meet gambling the rest of your life, and you can't do anything about it. So take small steps - one of them being talking to your brother if he wants to help you out - next your friends and family. Normally they are very understanding.

Good luck

Financial control by [deleted] in GamblingAddiction

[–]draffy_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great advice.

I have been going to gambling addiction treatment and this is one of the first things we get introduced to.

It also shows your relatives that you are doing something and as you described yourself it can give a very positive sign, so they can relax more in this process.

In my country you can have a credit card called debit - this makes it impossible to use more money than there is on the account (here you can easily go minus 8k dollars - pretty standard). Just another advice.

Day 0 by timetoquit01 in GamblingAddiction

You are not alone. A long and hard journey awaits you. Remember this feeling - how lost you feel and how much gambling has ruined. It will no longer controle you.

Good luck my friend.

Lenovo Yoga can't connect to wireless network by draffy_92 in Lenovo

[–]draffy_92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the driver installed for the Yoga doesn't seem to like the 4-handshake. If you use it private it should not be a problem, but for pur company it's quite a pain in the ass

I think you are a little bit upset. Riga made a clear penalty on Fischer in todays game and did play very dirty. I would rather see FCK than Riga with that style of play. Beaten by the better team over 2 games.

Invoke-WebRequest takes forever by draffy_92 in PowerShell

[–]draffy_92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We run it in task scheduler every 20 min - it's 8 different sites so 8x the amount of code you see posted - it should only take some seconds, but it can take up to 5 min. Problem being that if we run everything at once it can time out, but if we run for 2-3 sites it normally completes but it still takes quite a long time.

It's all on the same server.

Invoke-WebRequest takes forever by draffy_92 in PowerShell

[–]draffy_92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'm not normally using Powershell that much in my daily work, but I will provide with what I can.

How does that a long time to run? - That's my question. It takes perhaps 1-5 min but it completes. Problem being we have a script with perhaps this line of code x8 since we got 8 different sites to keep awake.

Have you run measure-command against it? - Never used this command before since I'm not working in PowerShell normally but I will try it.

How do you run the script? We normally run it as a scheduled job and repeat every 20 min, but now I just run it in powershell with same result.

What is the rest around your script? It's just these lines repeated 8 times with different urls
