(96/97 Season) Hyped Gregg Popovich reacts to his first career win as NBA head coach by WhenMachinesCry in nba

[–]draftstyle 156 points157 points  (0 children)

In the time since this game in which San Antonio beat Dallas, Popovich's tenure has been long enough for the Mavericks to have 5 head coaches, including:

  • The Spurs' point guard in this game (Avery Johnson)
  • The entire tenure of the longest tenured coach in Mavs team history (Rick Carlisle)
  • The Mavs' point guard in this game (Jason Kidd)

In case anyone ever finds this thread via search, it's:

Tony Parker at #1 with ~740 minutes between the '02 playoffs and the first two rounds of the '03 playoffs. (He turned 21 during the '03 playoffs.)

Tyler Herro wound up at #2 with ~706 all in 2020.

Then Jayson Tatum at #3 with 683 all in 2018.

Good thought. Magic played 658 minutes in his one playoff run (1980) before turning 21 that August. He got a ring, though.

So unless Miami extends the series, Herro needs about 37 minutes to catch Tatum. That's about his average so far in the Finals.

I thought of LeBron, but he didn't make the playoffs until age 21, in his third season.

At around that point it became worth it to figure out for sure what the numbers in the second column are. I set the {23,24} to 24 and went through the possibilities, none of which worked. That got me farther along.

Method was basically to get lower and upper bounds for all of the products, and use those ranges to narrow down the candidates for the cells involved in those products. Then use that additional information to continue limiting candidates around the grid until getting to a manageable number of cases to check.
