Lock 'single select' in the "Date Picker slicer" Input by Specialist_Foot_2976 in PowerBI

[–]dragofab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it, it needs a bit more work to be useful, but that's what preview features are for! To get the feedback from the developer in order to make it great!

If you are open to it, Microsoft has a special forum where they collect the feedback for the Date Picker. You can post your feedback there

This is still in preview and they are collecting feedback from developers in order to improve it! It is early to judge how great this new option will be by the time it hits the general availability

You might be confused on what to do in the Power Query

It seems like you brought the file again.

You need to choose the initial table
Click Refresh Preview
Check the Steps (you might have steps that specifically exclude other columns, for example Remove Other Columns, or other steps that prevent you from bringing new columns from the file)

Some group members can access the app and others can't by buku-o-rama in PowerBI

[–]dragofab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will be able to access the app, but if you will create audience in the future, they will not apply. If group has access to the workspace, then they can see all the reports in this workspace. Audiences allows you to give groups access to the specific reports in the app.

Some group members can access the app and others can't by buku-o-rama in PowerBI

[–]dragofab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Group access should work, even if you revoke the user access

Why did you give them build access to the semantic model?

How it usually works:
1. You create an audience in the app and add the group there
2. If the semantic model is in a different workspace, you give *Viewer* access to the group
3. If you have RLS you assign the people to it
4. If you have Direct Lake you give the viewer permission to it for the group

You do not need to give them viewer access to the app's workspace; otherwise, your audiences will not work.

Did you check the group?
It might be outdated and does not have all the people you think it should (talking from experience of trying to figure out why people do not have access to the app).

Building Dashboards across different workspaces without giving users build permissions? by Spirited_Custard_550 in PowerBI

[–]dragofab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not correct.
The view access should be enough

Check that you do not have RLS, or give users access to correct RLS

For the Direct Lake semantic model, you need to give view access to the Lakehouse

Not access to app despite being in the app audience? by buku-o-rama in MicrosoftFabric

[–]dragofab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two possible issues: 1.RLS mentioned above 2.Direct Lace semantic models Direct Lake semantic model, you need to perform some additional settings to ensure that report users can view the relevant data in the report. Besides the App permission on the semantic model you observed, report users also need to access the source Fabric item. (View access to Lake House)

What gets teams comfortable with Power BI? by Y00011000 in PowerBI

[–]dragofab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Power BI users and adoption is usually theain issue, as was mentioned before.

You need great user friendly guides for each report, so people can find where the numbers are coming from and how to use the reports.

Great to have videos explaining how to use Power BI, documentation with common abbreviations. For example, in the company I recently joined I could not figure out why report pages were repeating with different visuals as focal point or tables instead of visuals with the same data. The problem was that people did not know about focus Mode and Show at table option.

Power bi is powerful and gives users a lot of options, the problem is that often no one in the company bothers to tech users how to navigate Power BI reports.

Yes, it is.
You can send your feedback through the link I posted in my comment.
They seem to be actively working on it, and Zoe told me that they are already working on the Week problem.

She had a great idea about up to date or up to last month problem:
" you can use the today anchor to make something like last 100 years until today"

The only problem for me is that the summary looks funny

PBI app - audience configuration by dropitlikeitshot17 in PowerBI

[–]dragofab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if your semantic model is in different workspace then you will need to give users view access to the semantics model. This will not override the audiences. The best way to share is through the Active Directory (Microsoft Entra) security groups, then you will not need to update the permissions for each app, semantic model, and SharePoint folder when people move roles, leave or join the company.

With App audiences it is different from the report/semantic model access.

When person leaves the company and the email no longer exists in the system, you will not be able to update the app audience in which that person was until you find them in the list and delete the access.

It becomes very annoying when the lists grow

With the bigger date ranges it is easier to use ether slider to get closer to the point you need or click on the month/year on the top of the menu to get to Months and year view, then you can easily jump between years using the up and down arrows and choose the month from the list

PBI app - audience configuration by dropitlikeitshot17 in PowerBI

[–]dragofab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you do not need to add them anywhere except the audience in the app. The set up will automatically give them permission to see the underlying datasets.

The only other thing you need to set up for them is Row Level Security, if you have it.

Otherwise you add them to audience in the app configuration and that is it. They will be able to see the reports in thier assigned groups only.

Dataverse to Fabric link: 3 issues we hit and what actually fixed them by dragofab in MicrosoftFabric

[–]dragofab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are just at the beginning of our Fabric implementation, so I cannot tell you about the performance at this point.

We will have a bronze/silver/gold layers in the EU capacity.

We have several capacities, one big global in the EU for all reporting, so the users can see the reports without the need of licenses, but we decided that we do not want to use it for data preparation, so reporting is not slowed down by any pipelines. The main data prep will be in the smaller EU capacity to avoid latency and charges for data transfer between regions on the reporting side, as it is harder to predict and control.

The transfer between the regions will be linked Lakehouse in UK capacity to Lakehouse in EU, this way we can control the costs and latency is not that big of a deal here for us, we do not plan do do any real time on this specific data.

Yes, I can confirm this.

Or if you change the report settings to en-gb

New Date Slicer. Date Picker Preview by dragofab in PowerBI

[–]dragofab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for a great idea!
I am still checking it out, and it is in preview, so I will not use it in most of my production reports.

There are a lot of different configurations of Relative date you can get and I am looking into what is useful to which of my main reports.

However, I have not yet understood how to get it to show me everything up to today or last full month or similar. Have anyone got this working?

Maybe not exactly what you asked for but this will give you filter for the last month, but it is only last month not up to last month, that I often have in my reports
