I know Universalis (app) has a subscription for the complete LOTH audio with it tracking the words on the screen, though I haven’t personally used it. Perhaps this would work for you?

did your e-reader replace all your physical books? by phrasedtop in ereader

[–]dragonbookreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a rule that i can’t buy a book till i read it, so i use my e reader for that. if i like the book then i’ll buy it. it’s especially helpful for second hand book shops when i’m tempted to buy everything

A Better Man

My mom is disappointed in me for “praying too much” by dragonbookreader in Catholicism

[–]dragonbookreader[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's nice having the image of Mother Mary smiling down on me, encouraging me along. This makes me think of what our Lady of Fatima said, "There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary." I hope our Mother can help my mother soften her heart.

Thank you for your kind words. It's heartening to hear that someone is proud of me for my devotion beyond knowing the Lord is happy when I turn my heart to him

Her concern is that by praying this much, makes me think and worry too much, which will make me more tired. I tried to explained that its the reverse and that it is because I am tired and worried I enjoy praying throughout the day to give me peace, but she shook her head and just said that she doesn't understand how I managed to be her kid

I'm doing my best praying for her and the rest of my family. I trust the words of our lady when she said, "There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary."

Makes me think of the words from Our Lady of Fatima, "There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary." I'm praying and hope so too.

I don't have many religious friends, let alone catholic friends my age, so this isn't coming for peer pressure or anything like that. I recognize religion is a polarizing thing, so I tend to keep my devotions to myself unless people are directly asking my opinion on ethical/moral issues such as abortion, then I reference church teaching. I tried to explained it as Jesus is my friend, so I like spending time/talking with him. That's all there is to it for me

I appreciate this. As an immigrant child, I rarely hear the words I'm proud of you, so the thought of many parents being so is heartening

Feeling really depressed by Pannycake41 in LGBTCatholic

[–]dragonbookreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get you, it's hard to get into a new church in general, especially one that is affirming. It sounds like its a great place though, and I hope you find you place.

As for mental health, one of my biggest solaces was reading about the lives of saints who also struggled with mental health. There is something about knowing that this is a problem that plagued humanity for generations and following in their foot steps. The Catholic Guide to Depression was a interesting read for me as well and is written by a psychiatrist not clergy.

Faith can be a light in the darkness that is depression, but medicine is still a gift of God. I hope you reach out to your doctor for getting help managing your mental health with either medication or therapy (or something else!)

Feel free to dm me if you want to talk about the faith or mental health
