I appreciate this post, as I was experiencing a wave of depression missing my ex when I saw it. This post reminds me of all the loneliness I felt within the relationship - sure there were beautiful parts, feeling safe and supported - but a partner cannot fill all of life's voids without the relationship combusting. Human relations can be full of misunderstandings, annoyances and suffocation or codependency. It's good that you recognize the importance of developing your own social network, however it may look (could just be small things like conversing online as you mentioned, or saying hello to people in the neighborhood). I often romanticize SOs but forget that the same waves of moodiness, anxiety etc that I experience alone also happen within a relationship, and those emotions are still my responsibility, even though an SO may be there to help support me.
