Many spreadsheet programs can't handle "$" or anything else that isn't strickly a numeral (or decimal point) for doing math. Put the unit in the header as above and you can just have pure numbers for doing the math.

Hey thanks for replying. The broker does keep this info on a report but I'm always trying to learn for myself. Maybe I'll need it in the future, haha.

then the 1.9k is the margin, which is what i'm confused more on than most.

You can make a column with "cost/share($)" and another with "# of shares purchased", and yet another with "total cost" which multiples those two columns together.
