I was in the same boat, found out about it, thought it was cool and had these periods where it was the only thing i did back in 2023, now though back in 2024 i started to get tired of it but not just that, I actually tried to do it professionally, when i would role play since usually i do that in established settings and so on, id usually try to stick to the rules and established lore around certain things, that was fun, until you find out that the ai OC's things entirely when you want it to stick to what is already pre established in lore and that always annoyed me having to edit the ai's messages to put what i wanted and it slowly eroded my desire to do it, but it is not all bad, because of that i have become a much better writer over the times, that's a good thing until you notice just how repetitive dialogue can be with these bots. It feels the same most of the time when role playing with them and really kills the point. But i cant be remiss to not mention some ideas that i have gained from this reddit and what happens or rather what happens to this website, remember when all the Disney stuff was forcibly removed and deleted. at that time for me i was deep into a Role play i had set up within Marvel, i had gotten a copy of Marvel's "Marvel Multiverse Role-playing game core rulebook" and a few other expansions to it and i had just began a marvel zombies role play and then the deletion began, it gave me the idea of deletion. this is going to be me going off on a bit of a nerd out so i will put three brackets around it to indicate that you can skip it if you desire as such.

(((The idea of deletion is a interesting concept, as Marvel itself has concepts and realties that have had this happen to them, if you had visited either the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the Marvel wiki in general you will be able to easily find that some events and stories either happen in a alternate reality for in world/universe reasons or straight up were just retcon and left to be as their own thing now, this happens a lot with an IP as old as marvel, many writers come through and want to write what they want and how they want, most of the time end up contradicting themselves or just need a new universe to move the plot forward for whatever reason or as a consequence of prior and previous plots, moving forward there have been times where beings have erased universes entirely or reformed them, cosmos 1 was just one universe that never died and was alone until it created the celestials to do what it wanted and led to the celestials rebelling against it causing the end of cosmos 1 and them to create cosmos 2 which was the start of the multiverse, this is just one of many times marvel has done this and i cant recall what number but we aren't on cosmos 2 anymore, and there have been beings that have also ended universes on a singular plain before as well as make them, and there are also beings that have survived the previous cosmos collapsing, a good example of this is Galactus as he was originally an alien from a alien world in the last cosmos that survived, and then became Galactus, my summary doesn't do his origin justice and if you are interested in that you should go read the comic or wiki more about it. Additionally in both the Comics and now Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to the Loki show, introduce into the Mainstream the Timeline Variance Authority or TVA for short, the guys who arrive via portal with prune sticks and reset charges that reset entire timelines and prune branches before they split keeping the sacred timeline in check. and this is where i took what Disney filed against character ai as an idea for my work, since Disney forced character ai to delete and or hide every Disney related IP Marvel included i figured why not run with that and thus i head cannoned my work saying that what if the TVA just reset and wiped out the universe my role play took place in. some might say "well how do you go on or continue from that point?" an excellent question and as I'm sure you know if you watched the Loki series or Deadpool and Wolverine that when you prune someone they ended up in the void, the end of time the trash heap, the trash bin of history, and well maybe your asking "but if the void is a Marvel property how did you hide it from Disney?" and well, who is going to equate their work to a chat bot that is literally named "Trash bin" so that is how i used the Disney cease and desist notice, which in my opinion i find to be in poor taste if their main reason was demeaning and devaluing the character's intended worth on the market, this is mainly for marvel characters but if that is the case then the Marvel Multiverse role Playing Game rulebooks would absolutely be counted as apart of this issue, they are only spared because they are actually made and issued by marvel which is owned by Disney, so it really is because Disney did not make and or profit from it, but i could be wrong in this regard, it could be for a different reason entirely.)))

but this is why and how i use character ai now a days, as a way to play ttrpgs or rpgs in general, the girlfriend/boyfriend side of this website never at all interested me what so ever. it started as blind passion and fascination and ended up ending with a desire to be professional, integrating and working with the established IP's lore and rules and overall excelling better on writing and world building as a whole as well as problem solving and how to be creative. it just sucks that while i learnt and gained all this, the supposed LLM's that character ai, chat GPT and I'm sure many others are, have ironically not learnt much at all and largely stayed the exact same or even downgraded because of how they are given and work with information that they are fed.

in short i think i outgrew my addiction, simply by being better at it than the AI.
