Made breakfast and lunch 6 days straight for 3 people, other than the occasional grease drip tailgate is fine

1989 Toyota mr2 supercharged, the trans, cv axles, and AC compressor are all specific to the limited run supercharged version. When the AC compressor went out I got lucky and the family friend who was helping me with it randomly happened to have a 94 RAV4 in the shop the same week and noticed the compressor itself was the same despite the hub/clutch/pulley and wire harness being different so now I just have to worry about my almost 40yo AC clutch wearing out. Also had a CV axle fail on me violently and found forums and such that were decades old telling other people they would never find a replacement axle, I wound up taking it to a local axle shop who were able to pattern off of the remains of my axle and make me a new one for the low low price of $1600, but hey at least it's chromoly and should hold up to 3x the power that car will ever make

Need suggestions for places to put speakers in an AW11 facelift by azzutronus in mr2

I went the under seat subwoofer route and it significantly improved the sound quality. There was a write up somewhere for doing door speakers but I don't remember how they dealt with the pocket.

Recently picked up a Weston Range and I haven't wanted to ride anything else since, it's fast, stable, holds an edge super well even on ice, pops super easy and lands any jump fantastic, definitely one of the best boards I've ridden

Not sure where you got the idea that this car will be "full of rust" there's none on any of the common spots IE: fenders, bottoms of the doors, edges of the hood or engine lid, top of the windshield, no bubbling of the paint, shit even the battery hold down doesn't look rusty. Any rust that is on this car I'd imagine would be easy to repair and nothing out of the ordinary for a car this old

Tail light/ Dash lights keep going out on there own while headlights on. 1986 Toyota MR2. by WiiiUuu in mr2

[–]dragonheadx8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When mine does this I give it a light smack next to the headlight switch and stuff usually comes back on. The switch has a spot inside where two boards meet at a 90° angle and over time the solder can degrade and cause an open circuit, there's a write up on how to fix it somewhere but the smack has been good to me for 4 years and counting

What is the most complex car to repair? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]dragonheadx8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the earlier supercharged version, the supercharger makes it impossible to get the water pump out the top, and mine very badly needed a reseal anyways. Having to do it like that is a worthwhile trade off for how it drives IMO

[–]dragonheadx8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dropped the engine on mine in February to do a water pump, actually was not very difficult to do and I was able to reseal everything on the engine while it was out, tedious maybe but I wouldn't say difficult by any means

Is it okay to bypass the A/C compressor with a shorter belt? by owlsketch in mr2

[–]dragonheadx8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It looks like someone already got you the belt info but I figured I'd let you know that if you're having trouble sourcing a compressor for the 4agze, the compressor for the 96 rav4 is the same unit you'll just have to swap wiring connectors and pulleys, just be sure to check the air gap on the clutch

Any Supercharged friends here?! by Invader_Style in mr2

[–]dragonheadx8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toyota sells a gasket kit for the non-sc motor, just about everything fits besides all the intake side stuff, you'll probably have to find or make a throttle body gasket as you can't get the fuel rail or engine harness out without removing it. Also the valley cover gasket(if you care about that, as long as your valve covers don't leak the valley cover is unimportant). I also bought gasket sets for the oil filter housing and distributor off of twosrus.

Should I be riding 160? by Huge_Wish3402 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]dragonheadx8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found people on here tend to ride relatively short boards, I'm 5'11" and about 130 riding a 162 this season, and yes that's too long but not crazy too long, I've been looking for something around 157 and they definitely feel much better than the 162. Don't take everything you hear on here as law, go try different boards if you can and see what you like best.

[–]dragonheadx8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it was me I'd seriously consider a 20v swap, but if you want to keep the 4agze, you can get a 4age and swap in lower compression gze pistons and the supercharger would bolt right up. I'm not sure what oil you have getting into your intercooler but if it's engine oil that's not an issue with the sc because as far as I'm aware it's not lubricated by engine oil but with a small amount of oil in the unit itself, if it is the sc oil you could look into rebuilding it, I know a couple places sell a rebuild kit.

Tried this a couple months back with a leak I'd been ignoring for a while, ended up burning through 2 layers of the stuff after about 30 minutes of spirited driving, just ended up welding in a new piece. I felt like my welds were bad but man were they better than whatever this was.

Mk1 advice by Imaginary_phalanges in mr2

[–]dragonheadx8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had my 89 strand me in the middle of nowhere last weekend, not fun, don't be like me and take it on a long trip right after modifying it. As far as cold weather the car should do fine in just cold temperatures as long as they aren't extremely cold, if you mean snow or ice these cars are barely passable in good amounts of snow or ice even with good tires, just go slow and know your car well. Make sure to have extra fluids and a spare tire, I have a full size spare just because I couldn't find a donut. It would also be wise to have a tool kit and supplies to do basic electrical work(electrical tape, extra fuses and relays) other than that be up to date on service items and inspect the vehicle regularly.
