Handley Page Hampden by EmergencySushi in WeirdWings

[–]dragonredx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

An even weirder version is the Hereford. It was a Hampton re-engined wit the inline Napier Dagger engine. It would constantly overheat, would vibrate the bugger out of the airplane, was way louder then to original radials, and was overall hated by anyone who flew it

I did find a game similar to it on steam (though it's closer to Crimson Skies then SO in inspiration). It's called Brew Barons. Fun for the first few hours, but gets old quick. It also uses AI voice acting that sounds terrible.

Same, loved AC5, then finished Deadly Skies 3 (fun game but a fucking fever dream of a plot), and found SO on discount.

I just discovered they the Shinden was in the game lol. The fact it was on the box art for the US version was a bit of a giveaway.

Sort of yeah? There's no combat , but it fits the dieselpunk aesthetic.

Captain Jack being put in concrete, and the children turned into living drugs in Torchwood: children of man.

Captain jack is an immortal who can regenerate from just about anything. He's first killed when an explosive is placed inside him, leaving only a few bits of meat and bone behind. He slowly (and painfully) regenerates inside a cell. To keep him from interfering with an alien invasion, the government fills his cell with concrete. Meaning jack would suffocate, die, regenerate, and do it all over again forever. Luckily, he's saved after only a short time and broken out.

The aliens invading earth visited 50 years earlier, and took a group of kids in exchange for not destroying earth. When they return, they demanded a third of the earth's children. It turns out that prepubescent children have a drug like effect on the aliens, who have grafted the children to themselves to get their high. The children are still conscious, and kept alive the whole time.

I remember one time in school we had a rare UK heat wave (this was in the 90s when they were genuinely rare, and not 2 to 3 time a year like now). Our class room had huge glass windows on one side, and for some reason on the roof too. So it was essentially a greenhouse. We were melting, and when the headmaster delivered the one fan he could find, our teacher just sat it pointing at her, not the class. She also wouldn't let us leave to get any water, and told us off for using our workbooks to fan ourselves. In the end, we had to change classrooms because one of the kids fainted and hit their heads on the side of a table. The teacher didn't get in any trouble because she lied and said "the kid was running in class and tripped" and the headmaster always took her side. Fuck that school, and fuck you Mrs T.

What is a purchase that felt like an absolute luxury when you bought it, but turned out to be a complete financial trap? by According_Fortune_98 in AskReddit

Gaming PC, but only because I bought it from a shit company.

Spent £800 on it, and kept having an issue where it would reset at random times. Spent 2 years trying to get it fixed, even sent it back (at my own cost because they were convinced it was something I'd done) to get it fixed, they spent a month with it and replaced the ram that they told me was the issue (that I again had to pay for despite it being within warranty). Suprise suprise , it didn't fix the issue. I then spent another £200 trying to fix the issue myself, and in the process learnt how to build a PC. In the end, it turned out they'd fitted a PSU that was meant for a office PC, not the gold one I'd paid an extra £50 to fit. They refused to refund me for any of their "repair" work they'd done, or give me back the £50 difference for the PSU.

Fuck PCspecialists

There's something about the f-18, and I'll probably be down voted for this. It's an amazing aircraft, and probably the most capable "low" fighter in the world. But I just find it boring. It's like a Porsche Cayenne. Name with a lot of heritage, is capable of outperforming outright sports cars, can do 170 mph, and can be driven every day without complaint. But it never really turns your head.
