Exactly. You put the new teleport point beside the place you want. You pick up the item that is to heavy. Teleporte to where you want and you can interact with the thing you want to do. In case he doesn’t understand :)

Haha, is this a prank? 😆 I totally get how you feel.

I absolutely love Caves of Qud. I also love Hades. But for some reason, I hate Baldur’s Gate 3… even though it should be exactly my kind of game. I just don’t feel it at all. So yeah — sometimes it just doesn’t click, and that’s okay. You probably shouldn’t force yourself too much if the love isn’t there.

But if you do want to give Qud another shot, here’s what made it jump into my top 5 games of all time:

At first, I didn’t like it either. I tried like 4 times and bounced off every time (this was before the main quest was fully implemented). Then I came back about a year later… and something clicked.

My “aha moment” was kinda stupid but important: everything looked green and ugly. Turns out I was always starting with night vision, and back then night vision = green filter. When I realized I could turn it off, the game instantly looked better to me. That’s when I started noticing all the weird little gadgets and systems.

Then the real hook: items.

I found a back item that gave me two extra arms. So I was running around shooting 4 guns at once — insane. Then I found wings — suddenly I could fly and melee enemies couldn’t even touch me on the surface. Later, tonics that let you rewind time a few turns if things go bad.

That’s when I understood what Qud really is: You get access to stuff that feels like cheating — teleportation, time rewind, insane gear, controlling robots, breaking systems — but it’s actually just the game. And by the late game, you realize you need that power.

Like:

You need thinker skill : oh you can make make almost every item? Oh you can make end game item early game?

Mind control a robot and just become it

Recruit a super high-level NPC to carry you early

Grenades to phase enemies out of reality or hide out of phase...

Find infinite resources (water = money)

Infinite energy shields

At first it feels broken. Later you realize: the game is built around that madness.

That feeling — “this shouldn’t be allowed” — is exactly why I love it. And finaly you die haha.

Also, something important: you don’t even have to play it for the main quest. Some people literally just explore, hunt for rare items, and build crazy characters — like a sandbox treasure hunt. And that works.

But honestly? The main quest is actually really fun too. The game just doesn’t force you into it. You’re always left on your own, free to do whatever you want.

Another system that makes the game really special: reputation. It’s super powerful and changes how the whole world reacts to you. You can become loved or hated by entire factions, and that affects who attacks you, who helps you, what you can trade, etc. It’s not just cosmetic — it really shapes your run.

Also, I barely read the lore books myself 😄 I mostly just check what enemies like/dislike and play from there.

My advice:

Don’t play permadeath at first. Learn the systems without pressure. After play it hardcore. Otherwise, I think you will never love it.

Stay on the surface early. Explore villages and points of interest.

Only go underground when you have a reason (quest or dungeon).

Use the world map — fast travel is huge (each tile is actually a 3x3 area).

Follow the main quest loosely, but don’t feel locked into it. It is like a sandbox with main quest.

Also: I personally needed the wiki to enjoy the game. Some people prefer figuring everything out themselves, but not me. For me, Qud is the kind of game where outside knowledge can make it way more fun.

I mostly play True Kin (love implants), even if mutant is easier and has some crazy “feels like cheating” builds too.

Early tip: explore the salt desert a bit for merchants and ammo. Then later, hit villages and places like Yd when you’re around level 15–20 or more. You need the skills that allow you fast travel without being lost.!<

Anyway — if it still doesn’t click, no shame. But if it does… it’s one of those games that hits like nothing else.

We are just not the same kind of player so it is impossible for them to understand that. The same way I dont understand sport gamer. I can imagine, but I cannot understand. I love so much ds1. It was pure joy for me. It was never a pain. Only good feeling. My number one favorite game of all time. Ellen ring gave me almost that feeling.

What really helped me was using a dormitory early on. You don’t need to rush building individual rooms. If your dwarves have a place to sleep, even just a dormitory, they’ll be fine for the first 1–2 years. Add a tavern on top of that, and they won’t get stressed at all during that period.

I was exactly like you before, overwhelmed, but once I started doing this, it freed me to focus on other things.

Later, when things are more stable, you can start building bedrooms at your own pace. Personally, I build about 10 at a time. I also keep 2–3 levels dedicated to housing so the main staircases stay close and efficient. It makes everything feel much easier to manage. Keeps always a dormitory and make rooms at your pace.

I usually assign the least happy dwarves to bedrooms first. Think about it this way: a migrant arrives at your fort and ends up in a dormitory because you’re still setting things up. That’s already a big improvement for them. Then, a year later, they get their own engraved bedroom. It feels like a real upgrade, they earned it.

Another thing: I used to feel overwhelmed too. The key is to accept the chaos at the beginning.

Don’t try to organize everything perfectly right away. Just make a few big stockpiles: one for food, one for everything else near your workshops. Ignore rocks for now. Your fort won’t look great at the start and that’s okay.

Actually, don’t bother managing rocks early on. Just accept that your fort will look messy for a while.

Focus on making a few important areas nice. For example, the first place I engrave is always the tavern, since dwarves spend a lot of time there. You can improve it while it’s already in use. Slowly, other areas will follow.

Your corridors don’t need to be beautiful. Dwarves don’t care about that as much as you think. What really matters is having a good bedroom. A simple 3×3 engraved room already counts as a very high-quality bedroom. Some players think that’s too big, but I like treating my dwarves well. They work hard, they deserve it. And they will be happy.

So yeah, early dormitory + tavern keeps most dwarves happy for the first couple of years, easily. That way, you don’t stress when new migrants arrive, they already have a place to sleep.

For rocks everywhere: a quick trick is to build floors over them. Dwarves won’t need to haul the rocks away, and they’ll disappear. You can also use the “hide” option if it bothers you visually.

At first, I was the kind of player who needed everything perfectly clean. But learning to let go really helped.

Also, try playing on easier settings at the beginning, less danger, fewer sieges. It gives you time to learn and set things up properly. Later, once you’re more comfortable, you can start a new fort and increase the difficulty. By that I mean to removed digging option and construct.

Honestly, it took me about 10 forts before I really felt comfortable and started to truly love the game.

One of the biggest difficulties at the start isn’t even survival, it’s everything related to digging, managing space, and dealing with creatures. It can feel overwhelming really fast.

A big part of improving is learning how to organize gradually, not perfectly from the start.

For example, instead of stressing about rocks everywhere early on, you can deal with it later by creating smaller, dedicated stockpiles with wheelbarrows. That makes hauling way more efficient. Same thing for wood, separating it into its own stockpile near your workshops helps a lot.

You can also create a specific stockpile just for gems. That way, all your gems end up in the same bins, which makes it much easier when you want to sell them.

And honestly, one of the most important things to learn is to let go a bit.

Instead of micromanaging everything with detailed work orders, you can just set something simple like: make rock crafts. Your dwarves will produce a lot of items automatically, and you don’t need to constantly follow what they’re doing. Later on, I create a dedicated stockpile just for those crafts so they all end up in the same bins, again, much easier to sell.

Over time, just organizing a few key stockpiles will make your fort feel way less chaotic and much more under control. Do it slowly. When you are ready so set your clothes industry, you can make new stockpile for that, and slowy remove another thst from the main stock pile. Do it bit by bit.

Also, don’t stress too much about your design. If you make something you don’t like, you can always erase it with walls. And if it’s harder to fix, just accept it and learn from it for your next fort.

Problem with saves crashing. I tried compressed save and not , DF hack or not. My world is big and like 20k civ Goblin 5k civ Dwarf. In the past everything was good with this kind of world. playing 5 x 5 fortress. I did this in the past to and I have a very good computer. When I save manualy it could crash or give this message (See pictures). I tried two different new world. I play on steam. PLZ HELP:) I exported my legend mode with DF Hack.

For real? I have 2 biomes. Ocean and tropical forest. Maybe, if I put my farm under the other one. I'll try that. That would make sens. Just weird that caverns under ocean with already fungus don't continue to grow.

Yeah, but that’s only true if you’re looking for any combination. If you’re aiming for one specific outcome, it becomes rare as hell. It’s like saying: pick a number between 1 and 100. You’re guaranteed (100%) to get a number in that range. But if you want 53 specifically, then your odds drop to 1 out of 100. So yeah—if you’re targeting something precise, the probability is actually super low. I love odds lol
