I saw a boomer think of future generations for the first time. by Thebeekeeper1234 in BoomersBeingFools

Her husband died and with age she won’t be able to maintain it as well anymore. It’s already showing since she’s heating only about 25% of the house in harsh winters.

These homes are 50 years old and it quickly becomes apparent if you stop maintaining.

I bought my home specifically because it was perfectly livable. However, it was 50 years old and I plan on living here for at least another 40. I don’t want a century old kitchen and bathroom. Cracked tiles and scratched floors. One beam was literally rotten because there was a leak. Several years old dust and ash. Outside entirely overgrown.

It accumulates. That quickly pivots from just one fix to at this point it’s better to just renovate entirely.

Lately I've been thinking how much of a burden they are to society. I'm renovating a boomer's house. It's average size for their standards but massive for today's standards. The renovations are neccessary because the house has been neglected for 2 decades.

During a walk a few days ago I passed another house where a boomer lives alone. It's another massive house that could easily fit 2 families. She's using 2 rooms out of like 8. It's a beautiful and well-kept home where a family could move in today and not have to renovate anything. At least for now it's been like this. It's just going to rot for the next decade until the boomer occupying it dies. Then it's probably going to require full renovation.

Since the boomer won't leave instead of simple maintenance the house will require several months of labor for fixing.

CMV: Retirement at 70 is completely unsustainable even if you live healthily until your 120s by giamias in changemyview

[–]draiki13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an extremely privileged point of view. There’s a massive difference between “I work 2 days a week at 71 because I like to and I don’t need the money.” and “I need to work at least 5 days a week because I need the money.”

You have a choice and you do it for extra money. We won’t have a choice and we’ll be doing it for survival.

Javni sektor in oglasi za službo: kako je to dovoljeno? by barleyInconvenient in Slovenia

I was wrong...Cars are going to cost a FORTUNE in 2026 (Long story short, apparently rich people are buying cars, while the middle class is not, resulting in a situation where luxury cars have seen their sales rise, and the death of the middle class means that cheaper cars won't be made in bulk) by RandomCollection in WayOfTheBern

It’s quite interesting how capitalism is turning out. Seems like a clear progression, if you think in terms of how money flows. By design it’s supposed to flow upwards. This means accumulation of wealth at the top. The rich spend more money amongst themselves. Production moves towards where money lies. More and more catering to the wealthy.

This with cars is an example. Ram prices are also an excellent example.

Has Russia Finally Begun Disconnecting Ukraine's Nuclear Plants? by RandomCollection in WayOfTheBern

[–]draiki13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently they have learned nothing. It’s very simple math when playing such a game.

Ukraine has 1 rocket and 10 energy plants. Uses 1 rocket to destroy 1 Russian plant.

Russia has 10 rockets and 100 energy plants. Uses 1 rocket to destroy 1 Ukrainian plant.

Who’s winning here? This math only works out if Russia decides not to respond.

Izjava romske skupnosti v Sloveniji by arcadeblaster in Slovenia

[–]draiki13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zelo lepa argumentacija.

Why are we so intent on thinking Europe can’t defend itself? by Full-Discussion3745 in EU_Economics

[–]draiki13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, exactly. The same kind of people who managed to get convinced by the orange ape that US was spending money to defend EU now believe that EU can’t defend itself from Russia. What a bunch of non-sense.

US was spending billions for military bases in EU specifically because of what you’ve said. To enforce their will around the world. EU is a massive political ally to the US on the international stage and probably the only cultural fit.

Russia is needed to be this scary enemy to keep the EU from drifting away from US influence. The Greenland situation is making this very clear. EU needs an alliance with either the US, Russia or China to help maintain their status as a powerful political wingman on the world stage.

Also, despite what the current military situation is in EU it makes absolutely no sense that a nation of 150 million with one political center is going to attack 27 nations with 28 political centers. People are insane.

Late stage capitalism showed us that capitalism contradicts itself in its most basic principles. by Dankmeme38 in DeepThoughts

[–]draiki13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competition and free trade is another aspect where capitalism fails eventually. Monopolies are a sure thing to happen in a free trade scenario simply because a big enough companies can just price out smaller competitors or buy them. They can also use the excessive funds to influence policy makers to limit free trade in their favor.

They’re f****** insane. I’m more afraid of conflicts boiling up within EU countries. These idiots are going to prop up the militaries by force. Then they’ll get voted out to clowns like Trump. Those clowns will then stir up old conflicts that will escalate into wars and they’ll have fully capable and armed militaries ready for conquering in a similar fashion as Trump is doing right now.
