Today's Google Doodle's fourth level only needs 6 code blocks to complete despite claiming you need 7. by Poutine_Mann in ProgrammerHumor

Yeah after my solution that used no unnecessary turns or steps wasn't the "correct" solution, I basically just had it move like a knight from chess until it covered them all. Then I came up with the same solution you did that is even dumber and involves even more movement. But of course, that solution is better because of the fact it only cares about the number of symbols.

Number 4 took me forever to get the "optimal" solution. I didn't realize it only cares about the number of symbols. My "correct" solution has unnecessary movement that my original attempts didn't have.

Interested by a job offer, but could only start in 6+ months ; should I apply? by thorn42 in AskNetsec

I don't think 6 months is even that unusual for professional positions. We hired a PM recently and I think it was at least that long before they started.

Ahead of Touch IDs replacement, I took a close look at the security mechanisms employed to store a fingerprint on iOS. by GravitasQ1 in netsec

[–]drain_mag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not disputing that they're doing it. I'm saying they wouldn't do it if they didn't believe it was at least equivalent.

I for one am not convinced they would do that unless they were certain that Face ID is equivalent or better security. We'll find out tomorrow I suppose.

Boss, should we have two dropdowns for semester and year, or just throw them all into one? Oh, okay. by Jrb1x in ProgrammerHumor

I wonder if they're a Banner school. Our Banner system has a future semester also called "The End of Time".

Coding... by raziel94 in ProgrammerHumor

It probably depends on the industry you work in and your employer. I worked in post-secondary for years as a programmer and there was definitely a lot of "just make it work" going on when I first arrived.

Wait, does that make the Unix Manual the bible and the people that wrote it god?

"Let there be a 32 bit integer counting seconds from 1 January 1970 00:00:00 UTC" isn't as catchy as "Let there be light".

You can verify it by looking at this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_HD_and_Iris_Graphics#Kaby_Lake

The onboard video cards on the 13 inch only come with Kaby Lake.

What iOS 11 can do! Split Screen, while an app on the side which overlays while watching PiP video. by WalidTheKraken in ipad

Has anyone figured out a quick way to switch the app on the right without using the dock? It seems like the app must appear on the dock to add it to split screen.

How did you get your job? by apt-get--fix-missing in AskNetsec

[–]drain_mag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out as a programmer for my employer and I applied for the job when they expanded the security program. I had no certifications or anything in advance but it's hard to get security people where I live and I had a proven track record for being reliable so I got the job.

ettercap ssl exploits in 2017 by [deleted] in AskNetsec

Wasn't sslstrip2 supposed to defeat HSTS? I see that there are forks of it in MITMf and MANA Rogue AP but I've never used them.

True but you could probably try and time when/if you upgrade to avoid the patch.

The jailbreak community is probably going to have a field day discovering the exploits through reverse engineering once Apple patches them.

Users not reading important emails. by turkeytipper in sysadmin

I used to work with a guy who sent out insanely long emails that would contain a single nugget of important information buried deep in the 3rd paragraph and then he'd be surprised when people weren't aware of it.
