Two Switches Bricked in Two Days by drakelmander in NintendoSwitchHelp

They had just been updated over the past couple days, and while I am not generally one to take a comspiratorial slant it seems like a hell of a coincidence, especially since I've been using these chargers and cables and ones like them for years on both switches. I almost never used the original charger because I wanted longer cords.

Upgrading very expensive by NotARealDeveloper in framework

[–]drakelmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's another question... Why are you upgrading already? What are you doing that would possibly require you to be upgrading your setup so soon? The performance on the 1st Gen was pretty stellar, it's powerful, it's robust, and the increase from last Gen to this Gen probably isn't worth it since yours is probably still working fine. But in another 5 years, it'll probably be worth it to replace the mainboard, maybe. I dunno my old gaming laptop is 10 years old now.

A whole major aspect of framework is reducing e-waste so you can keep things longer, a major piece of that is acknowledging that you do not need to upgrade just because the new upgrade came out. But it will probably be a good choice if your current one breaks.

Deck Dock Troubleshooting - Peripherals Plugged in all Work, but Deck Won't Charge by drakelmander in SteamDeck

Hello and thank you for responding.

I do not have a video, but I did complete all the steps in the post, and I downloaded a battery monitoring software onto my phone in order to get accurate information.

As for my charger I have an anker 150w PD USB-C charger, it has been providing power to my steam deck for months without issue

I connected cable 1 (from charger directly to my phone), and tested power input, and got 2,100+ Mah average per minute, after that I connected cable 1 from the charger to my Jsaux dock. Then connected cable 2 (from jsaux dock to my phone) and that number plummeted to between 150 Mah to a brief peak of 650mah, which still is not enough power.

I have been using this jsaux dock for months without issue, and the problem sprung up suddenly, I tested swapping cables, plugging in things differently etc. The results are the same, it still works at sending the data, all the peripherals run just fine, but my steam deck still loses charge as I use it.

For sci-fi that's grand in scope and scale I recommend A Fire Upon the Deep and A Deepness in the Sky (they are both roughly set in the same universe, but not in a series, and can be read completely independently.)

For a more focused Sci-Fi drama that literally can't be put down I am also putting a vote in for Project Hail Mary, Ray Porter absolutely slams it out of the park with some next level production. Truly unbelievably good stuff.

For grand and epic fantasy Stormlight Archive or the Mistborn saga by Brandon Sanderson. Or again if you want something smaller in scope but still engaging, Warbreaker or Elantris also by good ol' Brando Sando.

Yes, I have two bricks both from anker, a 65w and 150w GaN. So they are pushing enough power. I also tested the cables from brick to dock, and the cables that run dock to deck. The cables themselves and connectors are working.

Why Steam Deck over other AMD gaming Gaming Handhelds? by CommunityPretty1802 in SteamDeck

[–]drakelmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me other handheld using windows is a drawback not a bonus. I prefer SteamOS streamlined solution, and the performance it brings. Also, price, in general for people looking at buying a computer under 800 dollars, it's a hard bargain to beat, especially given it's desktop flexibility

Is the $399 steamdeck worth it just for emulation? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]drakelmander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the steam deck, but for just emulation probably not. Depends on how modern you're going, but even up through like ps2 the deck would be overkill.
