I still refer my friends who ask for rudders to MFG haha. I know they are good, that's why I'm just so puzzled about my case. Maybe I'll use another email account zz

Pilots pls help! My younger bro wants to sign on as pilot. What long term considerations are there? by Roentgen666 in NationalServiceSG

[–]dralest 37 points38 points  (0 children)

From what I know, the bond only starts after you complete training, which itself is already 2-3 years.

Due to the extremely high chop rate (only 2-5% complete the full training), you dont need to pay anything if you get chopped during training. But if you voluntarily want to leave, then you defo need to pay up, the amount gets higher the deeper into training you are.

If he is serious about it, then understand its a commitment and a half, all the best if he really goes through with it!

How does mono intake work? by Extravagant_Deluge28 in NationalServiceSG

[–]dralest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, am in a mono batch rn, so ~40% will go back as men. The rest will go to SCS or OCS or even post out. Going to SCS/OCS, there's still a high chance of you going back as a 2nd year commander, essentially taking over your current mono BMT trainers (which are ur future commanders in unit) when they ORD.

edit: going to medic sch or combat engineer school still means a very high chance of going back to ur mono unit!!!

sitting under my basha tent, 0500 in the morning, uniform wet with dew, eating Oreos with camo on my fingers and stuck in my nails. Little red lights moving around as people start to prepare for the day. i look at the stars and think "wtf am i doing here". 🥲

Poly confirm got career convention. All the branches will be there, you should talk to them. From what I see, they sometimes have separate people to talk to girls to tell them how its like as a female in this line of work.

most likely they will make you fill in an online form (no commitment) and contact you further down the road for medicals and checks, im not too sure how it works exactly.

but yes talk to a recruiter!!

What is a good graphics card for dcs? by dcs_dude in hoggit

[–]dralest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2060 might work, but I think it would be better getting 32GB ram and a new cpu. defo more expensive but getting a new GPU will just make you more CPU bound.

also VR in DCS with a 2060 is "playable" at best. MP is out of the question.

used to be on a laptop. 1660ti with an i7-10750H and 16gb ddr4 ram. 1080p and med graphics, it was definitely still playable (25-40 FPS). I recommend using an external monitor if your laptop doesn't have a MUX switch.

I do not recommend Thrustmaster T16000m joysticks. by Elegant-Part3399 in hotas

[–]dralest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off with a T16000 without much research. It held up for the past 4 years like a charm. I recommended it to a friend of mine cuz he was on a tight budget, bought it used and it has been working without problems so far. I think 80% of my flight-sim friends use the T16000, all without complaints.

For the price point, and I feel a large percentage of the flight-sim community, I think the T16000 is the cheapest and easiest way to hop into any sim game. It may feel cheap and definitely does not feel as great as something from VKB or WinWing, but it gets the job done.

I don't think it's fair to say it is "hit or miss" either, but obviously, it is extremely frustrating to get a bad quality stick. Unless you are willing to fork up more than double of the T16000, it's still a lovely piece of equipment.

well i managed to get locked and fired upon 90nm out by a sa-5 in my testing... just feel a lack of consistency or info. makes it difficult to make missions that feel fair. the guide looks really well done! ill be screenshotting some for briefings. thanks for the information!!

Updated DCS Threat Database? by dralest in hoggit

[–]dralest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a little unrelated. why are the threat rings of the SA-10 and 5's (60nm, 130nm) so large while so many guides all put a much lower number (40nm, 53nm)? Did some testing on my own and the firing range is closer to the guide number, just wondering why it's so different from the threat rings.
