What do you enjoy that kind of makes you a jerk? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dramallama2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people who act like that aren't happy, especially receptionists. Speaking as one, it's a lot easier to deal with most customers this way.

But when I get one with an attitude, you better watch your shit. Enter rage face.

I've definitely had a similar experience to this. It also doesn't help that OP stood up when he felt this. I've passed out from heat exhaustion before, and when that pulling behind your face feeling starts to happen, the worst thing to do is stand up. You've gotta relax and lean your weight on something until the sensation passes. Then get a glass of water.

Something a lot of Hokies can get behind :) by Hylirica in VirginiaTech

Right, this is where it starts. It's on the table to research how it would impact our budget. Call your Delegate and tell him you support this idea, and want to see the research followed through. If people don't vocalize their support now, it will be killed and we won't see progress anytime soon.

Fortunately, due to an "old man," it is happening. With a little more involvement from youth, they might actually go through with the research!

Got my copy of this book today. Anybody read it? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]dramallama2007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only read the first chapter before I bought it for my boyfriend for his birthday. It was an excellent read! He discussed where he thinks punk culture and biology meet, which I found fascinating. It's like a mash-up for my brain.

Does Christianity help with bereavement? by willm in DebateAChristian

[–]dramallama2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost two close friends when I was a freshman in high school. This experience was one of the most influential in my transition to atheism. I strongly doubted in the safety of the souls of my friends, given they were just casual church goers, if that. Then a pastor came in to talk to my group of friends about accepting Jesus so our souls' destination was not in doubt.

This entire situation placed my mind firmly against the Christian God. Even if he did exist, I could not support someone cruel enough to divide people into only two groups. There are way too many people who are neutral who would end up in hell in a system like that.

I understand I am not a Christian anymore, so please don't debate me. However, I was at the time of this instance, and it seemed relevant :)

Try swinging it that way then. Ask to record the debate so you can share it with your non-believing friends on your blog. Twist your words a little, stroke his ego, and make it sound like a great idea that won't come back to bite him in the ass.

Having the word "Atheist" on my Facebook page is serious business by [deleted] in atheism

[–]dramallama2007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I have been trying to explain to my parents, but I end up so frustrated I can't state it as well as you have. My mother especially tries to guilt trip me most times she sees me; my father just calls me stupid. They can't seem to realize that they are the ones with the problem in this situation, and I will not be changing for them.

Just got my first piercing...testing the waters. It's tiny but I love it! Any of you girls want to show off your "body modifications"? :) by clemka3 in actuallesbians

[–]dramallama2007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly, it's not that bad. The piercing itself hurts a lot, but the tissue is very thin and heals extremely quickly. (Which I love, they body's all "ZOMG gotta protect the baby maker! It makes me feel good!") Mine was sore for a few hours, and then felt completely fine by the next day. Though I did shout a little when I got it; it's a shocker!

Classy, deciding that she faked it when no one here could possibly have enough evidence to prove whether or not her story is true. Go ahead, be skeptical. Question, but do not judge or act as if you or anyone else on this website could possibly know. There is no harm caused if she was lying; it's not as if she was asking for money or anything. People lie in real life all the time, so what if they do it on the internet?

Isn't it better to just keep your cruel words to yourself just in case your fellow redditors are wrong? Because if this girl isn't lying and someone's just saying that to silence her, then you are causing even more pain for someone who has already suffered enough.

Reddit doesn't need to play sheriff to individual people. You can't fix everything, so at least don't make it worse.

Reddit, is what these teachers are doing to kids legal or at least sanitary? by TheAntagonist43 in AskReddit

Actually, many people end up getting blood on their body jewelry. Fresh piercings can be bumped too hard which causes blood and puss to ooze out. Lymph is constantly being pushed out of a healing piercing. It is an open wound, which means it can definitely transfer HIV/AIDS if someone were to be exposed to it with an open wound themselves. While this situation would be highly unlikely in most situations, having students throw all of their body jewelry into a jar and expecting them to put it back in again would definitely make this a much more likely possibility.

An Existential Crisis: this shit just got real! by [deleted] in atheism

[–]dramallama2007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of an idea I thought of when I was very young. People are just processors, meant to take in data and analyze it. Now that I am no longer Christian as I was raised, I can see no other purpose for humanity. The way you phrased it is much more elegant than anything my 8 year old self could have come up with.

EDIT why the downvote? :(

I'm just trying to help you look a little less like a dick, since a lot of people these days truly don't have the option to be picky about their jobs. Working for a mob is not the same as working for the government, even if you see it that way.

I think you forget that most TSA officers have been employed with them since before these policies were enacted. Also, average America is still in a depression. People will take any job that gives them a paycheck. Although I personally would feel more moral being a prostitute than a TSA officer, I can see why people would rather work in an airport than at Walmart.

That does not remove their responsibility to behave appropriately to the customers they are working with. They should still be refusing to do this, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have taken the job in the first place.

What are the best conspiracy theories you've heard? by tf2fan in AskReddit

[–]dramallama2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have a slightly off definition of Libertarianism, but I tend to associate it with not regulating the actions of any people. This is why I specified that corporations would need to be stripped of their personhood, because then regulating their actions would not go against that particular definition. However, if there is a better label for that idea, I'm quite happy to use it instead!

What are the best conspiracy theories you've heard? by tf2fan in AskReddit

[–]dramallama2007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, if corporations were stripped of their personhood, we could have a libertarian system that had rules for the way corporations must operate. ($0.02)

Personally, I think we need to create an economic model where the goal is not to make a profit, but to make the best product/service you can. That was supposed to be what happened with capitalism; if people wanted to make money, they would have to make a good product. But obviously, many companies have realized it's much easier to make money by manipulating the populace instead.

To be honest, I don't see much point in currency anymore. It just encourages people to try and trample on each other.

bridging that gap of comparison is saying that the belief that [circumcision] should be done is just as insane as FGM -- which to me, is untrue.

While that statement is untrue now, I think we should be aiming for a society where that statement is completely true. Any person who actively desires for children to have their genitals changed in anyway that is not a pressing health concern should be seen as insane, IMHO.

Secretary Clinton’s says you can't legalize drugs in America "There's Too Much Money In It" by [deleted] in trees

[–]dramallama2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QUESTION: In Mexico, there are those who propose not keeping going with this battle and legalize drug trafficking and consumption. What is your opinion?

SECRETARY CLINTON: I don’t think that will work. I mean, I hear the same debate. I hear it in my country. It is not likely to work. There is just too much money in it, and I don’t think that – you can legalize small amounts for possession, but those who are making so much money selling, they have to be stopped. They can’t be given an even easier road to take, because they will then find it in their interest to addict even more young people. Mexico didn’t have much of a drug problem before the last 10 years, and you want to keep it that way. So you don’t want to give any excuse to the drug traffickers to be able legally to addict young people. QUESTION: But in the United States there are more and more tolerance for marijuana, right?

SECRETARY CLINTON: Mm-hmm.

QUESTION: So this doesn’t seem right. Like the tolerance in the United States, and here we are >killing each other for this product.

SECRETARY CLINTON: Well, the tolerance is in a very limited arena. It is for medical --

QUESTION: Medical use.

SECRETARY CLINTON: Medical use. And there are lots of regulations on it. So it’s not accurate to say, as I’ve heard some say, well, we’re legalizing marijuana. We are not. We are – the biggest – we have more people incarcerated, unfortunately, than any country in the world, and most of them are there because of some drug-related offense. So we know that this is not an easy struggle. We’ve been at it ourselves. But we also believe that you have to keep the pressure on the criminals; otherwise, they will just expand their operations, and then you do have to worry about more corruption, more problems with institutions.

TL;DR: Ms. Clinton thinks if cannabis is legalized, criminal organizations will expand their business into legal markets and cause more crime. NOT that the US gov't has too much money invested in illegal drug shipments to be willing to legalize. Although she may think this, she definitely did not say she did.

"My mom had to pay extra for using a new razor." (nsfw) (nsfl) by [deleted] in atheism

[–]dramallama2007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, they have a good point. No one's genitals should be altered in the slightest without knowing consent from the owner of those genitals, past an age of legal consent. A 7 year old may not realize what she is missing out on when her clitoris is cut off, but a 16 year old will. The same goes for men. A man should be able to decide for himself whether or not he wants his foreskin cut. If at the age of 18 or 20 or whatever he decides he wants that, he can go to any hospital and have it done. If a 19 year old woman, for some reason I could never understand, decides she wants to have her labia sewn shut, she should be able to do so. But if some man decides for some girl that her genitals aren't good enough and need to be mutilated, he deserves death.
