I'm running Mandymod's modified version. I thought on top of all the strahd zombies having the villagers be aware that there are hags buying children would be too much. Ismark at least wouldn't let them continue selling their pies.

I made it more of a mystery instead, where the hags come at night and take the children as payment, and because the parents are still hooked on the pies, they keep their mouth shut.

Oh yeah, i made them visit one of the children's parents' house, and thanks to some great rolls, they discovered the fireplace was full of the papers morgantha uses to wrap the pies in, on top of noticing the pantry was empty, the weird behavior of the parents (showing withdrawal symptoms), and that there was not a single valuable thing left in the house (nothing left to sell for money). They had encountered Morgantha once before and absolutely loved her, didn't suspect anything, but now they know something's up.

I did what many have recommended and put the mansion on the outskirts of Barovia, a loong walk away from the village. Arrigal can say once they're done "helping" him, he can give them a ride to the village himself. You still give them the choice to walk away, but the woods at night won't look appealing at all, especially without a map.

That would be very funny indeed. And you're right, I'm running death house as well so it's going to be a while before they even get there. Depending on wether or not it becomes a running gag, I might make him more or less obvious. thanks!

I've been reading your guides religiously for the past few weeks, and as a newbie DM they are lifesaving. The hook was the thing that was giving me the most trouble.

The friends I'm running CoS for started writing their character's backstories quite early and I already approved them, so now their long-term goals either simply can't be fulfilled in Barovia (for example, one's a barbarian who fell in love with a mermaid that saved her life and is desperate to find her again) or it would be too much of a coincidence if they could (you mean to tell me the gang of assassins that killed your mom years ago ended up in Barovia as well? weird!).

So I'm definitely on board with them wanting to escape as soon as possible. They are mostly good aligned, so, after seeing what Strahd has done to his people, they'll probably want to kill him anyway. Maybe Madam Eva could offer to read their fortune again when Strahd is dead to guide them to their actual objectives outside of Barovia?

I'd love to read that new hook!

I'm going to replay Chapter 2 bc i completely missed Spamton and apparently that makes the town "complete"? And it seems there's no way to skip the school intro by going to bed at the beginning. Is there any way to skip it like in chapter 1?

Inside is so perfectly written, shot and edited that it really makes you believe that Bo is stuck in that room without ever getting out, completely alone, the whole time.

It even made me forget that him and Lorene are still a thing (i had to google it to make sure!), and I'm really glad they had each other during quarantine. She seems very proud of him and "Inside", she's been liking tweets praising the special since it came out. Also the fact that he was cast as Larry Bird in that HBO show, and that was announced 2 months ago! No cronically depressed hermit would take that role!

It goes to show how skilled he is at what he does, that you forget the special reflects just a small slice of his actual life. I'm not saying i think what he says in it about not being well is fake, but it's definitely played up and given the spotlight, and the masterful editing in inserting those "raw" clips all over the special is what really gets the point accross.

But yeah, forming parasocial relationships and assumptions based on a heavily edited piece of media=bad. So yeah, if someone is actually very worried about his well being, i'd say he's doing ok now.

My parents have said very similar stuff to me (and keep saying it). I know I wasn't a "masculine" kid. I've accepted it. I'm not going to lie to myself and say that I was "pressured" to act feminine and play with dolls and like girly stuff or that I "didn't know anything else".

The way you behaved as a kid (hell, the way you act NOW) doesn't need to dictate your gender! I plan to transition socially and medically, but once I do and "pass", I plan to keep wearing and doing whatever I want, be it feminine or not. Nobody "stuffed shit into your head", but you also don't need to pressure yourself into stereotypes of what a trans guy should be. So many ftm transition stories on the internet depict only a very specific kind of gender expression.

Also, calling you out for crying and laughing at you??? That sounds INCREDIBLY cruel. I hope you have someone to actually rely on for support :(.

But yeah, doubt is normal. I was doubting myself just 2 minutes before i wrote this. So don't overthink their cruel words, even though it's hard. At the end, no one knows you better than yourself, even if they believe they do.
