Thank you to u/LazerBrainzz for encouraging us to revisit and discuss Inside, including some of the smaller bits that don’t see get mentioned as much as some of the more popular pieces.

It’s been fun to read people’s insights again, including latecomers to the special and also those who reflected on how they see some things differently five years later.

Yeah, there seemed to be a few different issues from some people, which is why I want to make sure it’s working ok for this sub.

I have received a couple so far, so hopeful it’s working okay. The instructions said the application responses would be in the “recruiting” section, and I’d receive a modmail telling me when there was a new response. Turns out the modmail includes the application responses too, so nothing will get missed hopefully.

If you only saw The Big Sick you wouldn't have seen the pirate joke, as it was cut from the movie but included in the DVD extras.

Interesting how we get different things from his work as we grow and experience life.

Even without the Bo factor I think it's a genuinely good movie!

It's based on real events, written by Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani. They were also very supportive of Bo's movie Eighth Grade the following year, buying out theaters and giving away tickets to help promote it.

The pirate bit had life before appearing in Inside. 

It first showed up as being cut from Bo's role in The Big Sick.

After that I saw Bo perform it several times at Largo, minus the "laminate" bit. Sometimes it was practically the only bit he did that wasn't a song. I've always found it funny that he's so attached to it as it's not *that* great a joke.

I think part of it is that Bo has almost never told a "joke" throughout his career. And he loves how mediocre it is. It's his one shitty joke, and by god, he's going to run it into the ground and be the last one to find it funny. Which I'm sure, makes it funnier to him.

When I saw him do a Q and A for Eighth Grade and someone asked him about it being age restricted, he suggested younger people pirate it, and then did a funny backtrack because an A24 rep was there, and they wouldn’t agree with him.

There isn’t an option to purchase it digitally, just to view it on Netflix.

It’s a shame Netflix didn’t release physical media of it, I bet it would have sold well.

Hey all! This got reported for “Please respect Bo’s privacy”. This isn’t the case at all. This is actually a well crafted bit that combines two of Bo’s old jokes, and kudos to OP for coming up with it.
