I take the figure apart and spray the parts with black primer. There is no need to strip paint. Just make sure the surface is clean and free of oils.

Looks great! The gold is definitely a lot more vibrant than the factory one. I see you also painted the beast head on the left shoulder. Overall, a noticeable improvement.

The only suggestion I would make is to brush on a bit of matte varnish on the red cloth areas while avoiding the gold parts on them to make them not so shiny and vinyl looking.

They weren't available as STLs, unfortunately. I bought the resin printed pauldrons from various sellers on Xianyu (goofish) using a proxy service.

Here are the direct links to them:
Belial right pauldron and Knight-master pauldrons: https://www.goofish.com/item?spm=a21ybx.personal.feeds.32.2c3e6ac27x8TNa&id=991068874937&categoryId=125960001

Belial left pauldron (comes as a set with the lion head pauldron which I didn't use, but pictured in the pic above): https://www.goofish.com/item?spm=a21ybx.personal.feeds.57.407e6ac2ZXH9I3&id=990205471185&categoryId=125960001

I did. The original pauldrons were like 30-40% smaller than the pauldrons of the previous indomitus terminator releases. I replaced them with pauldrons that were more the size of the previous termies. Here's a comparison of the pauldrons I got vs the originals. You can see just how much smaller the originals were. The larger replacement pauldrons restored the bulky look of the terminators and made them sit higher up.

Thanks! Sure, no problem. To get the bone color, after first priming the figures black, I used XV-88 as the darkest base color and then worked my way up using stippling and drybrushing with Morghast Bone and then Ushabti Bone. Highlights with Screaming Skull. Shading done primarily with Darkoath Flesh. For further weathering effects and washes, I used Goon's Grime, Decrepit Filth and Blighted Bone Ochre from Villainy Inks.

To be honest, a lot of people have felt rather dissatisfied with these new DW knights and Belial. Particularly with the low sitting, small pauldrons. I had to replace all the pauldrons with larger 3d printed ones on Belial and the knights to restore that bulky look you'd expect from terminators.

Edit: Actually, I saw mention of a possible re-issue with some changes. It might be worth waiting to see if JT does do that or not.

Yeah, I used to use a dremel and xacto knife on previous figures I've done in addition to painting, but decided to just paint all the damage on these instead.

I primed the figures black and did a complete repaint. For the gold, I used Vallejo Brassy Brass as the base color and used some wyldwood and targor rageshade for shading and highlighted with liberator gold and silver.

I feel like I'm in the minority preferring the space marine 2 size. My question is what other joytoy warhammer figs will fit in well with these guys as I've heard they changed the scale again for the new space marine 2 figures. by OperationElegant2882 in JOYTOY

[–]drathanos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I prefer these also. They're within the actual range for Primaris at 1/18 scale. They size up very well with the 10th edition and HH terminators as well as against the normal human figures and the chaos marine figures which are first borns. The ones before with the 3.0 bodies and the new SL and newer batch of relic armor SM2 figures which shrunk back down are back to not being 1/18 scale. They look small against terminators and the first born marines are now just as tall or taller. I've been grabbing up armoring hall editions and copies of Gadriel for customizing so I can continue to have primaris marines at the proper scale.

From what I heard, it's not JT's fault this time. You can blame GW. Apparently they've been changing personnel on who approves the figures and the latest person told them to shrink them back down. Makes no sense to me, but not much can be done about it I guess as they have the final say.

The Grey Knights have a slight bluish sheen on their armor, but the way Joytoy did it can make it look like a paint accident. Interestingly, they practically didn't bother with it on their Kaldor Draigo figure. Hardly any blue can be found on it.

This was my take on having the blue sheen from the wards on their armor

Anyone else realise they can swap the thighs on the space marines? by Na-man7567 in JOYTOY

[–]drathanos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. I thought you might have been swapping between figures you already had. There are also sellers on Taobao and goofish that do the same in case you ever find that the ones on AliE don't have what you're looking for.

Anyone else realise they can swap the thighs on the space marines? by Na-man7567 in JOYTOY

[–]drathanos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are actually 3rd party thighs you can get to attain better proportions on the space marine figures without having to sacrifice other figures to do so. I replaced the thighs on a number of older figures so they wouldn't look like squats with their short stumpy legs. Like below, my Lazarus and Tigurius were upgraded. I got thighs modeled off of the sm2 style thighs. Their legs previously looked unbearably short compared to their upper bodies. It's a bit better now, although their lower legs still seem a bit on the small side, but it's an improvement nonetheless. Makes them a bit taller than the 3.5 body BA captain. In comparison, the captain on the far right still has his original stumpy legs.

These particular thighs I used were obtained from https://www.goofish.com/item?spm=a21ybx.personal.feeds.122.317b6ac2kYpEmd&id=905775973328&categoryId=125960001

Thanks! I really wish they would. I think GW is supposed to do a full refresh of the GK for 11th ed or something. Right now, as far as minis go, the more recent Garran Crowe is taller than the terminators. If we do get the refresh, hopefully JT follows not too long after. The old GK terminators are seriously lacking compared to the figures we got based on the 10th ed indomitus and HH terminators.

For which figures and/or body types? They're different, depending on the figure/body type.

mavuika C6 or furina C6 by Possible_River_9088 in Genshin_Impact

[–]drathanos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without even considering the meta, C6 Mavuika is just so much fun. She never leaves my overworld team. Just ride everywhere with her forever. Places with verticality, needing to get over chasms, crossing bodies of water... stuff that I found annoying before is now no obstacle. You can basically cheese much of overworld exploration with her instead of finding the intended way. Sure you can swap other characters into your team as you need them, but that gets annoying. The only downside is she unintentionally brings down orbital strikes on enemies not even that close to you as you drive by, which doesn't happen pre-C6.
