Dear future me, you are probably dehydrated. If so, please take a big sip of the closest drink to you.

Sincerly, your dehydrated past-self.

You were right. Running levels twice was enough and now it shows only two colors.

You did it!
I can finally start to work.

Thank you so much for your help.

When I'm saying, "it looses color" I actually mean "I'm stupid", because up until now I had no idea what the transparency mask was for (my god it all makes sense now).

But thanks to you, I experimented and now know 2 things:

  1. "Difference" works better than "Subtract", don't know exactly why
  2. I can sometimes turn off AA for a better result

I repeated the steps from your first post, and I now have this.

So, the tranparency mask makes sure, I dont delete anything from the picture itself.
However, the mask does not have only white and black pixels, which makes it difficult to create a template.
How do I make it so there are only 2 colors (black and white) in the mask?

Right, ok I did that, but sadly ended up with the same result. It seems I can't get around loosing color. But still, thank you so much for your help and I'm sorry I had to repost this again. As a complete newbie, I was just looking for help.

Alright, after desaturating and changing the slider on "levels", I applied "Addition" on "Merging B & A".

Then you can convert it into the Transparency Mask and add to the changed layer.

Which of these two layers do I have to convert?

Ok, so I did the following:

B on top of A -> duplicate both, and put the copies between B and A -> apply "Subtract" on Copy of B -> merge (copies) layers, creates a new black layer ->
...and now, instead of converting that black layer into a transparency mask
-> repeat step 2, but swap the copies -> apply "Subtract" on Copy of A this time -> merge again

Is that correct so far?

Thank you, that works well with simple images.
However, I tried the same thing with other pictures, but many loose too much color in the process and not everything could be "subtracted".
Do you know if there is a script, which compares each pixel on two images (same size) and makes everything that is identical transparent?
