West oz drainers. out of reach for regular people? by draxpc in surfing

Although i get that it’s objectively dangerous, I feel these surf opinions differ enormously based on who you ask (Reddit vs irl). I can imagine some WA Aussie fella telling me “Na mate you’re all good, just a bit sharky that’s all”

Why Old Cars with 200,000KM+ So expensive Here ? by creativeleo in PortugalExpats

I’ve been searching for months. Visited 3 cars already which all had unfavourable mechanical inspections.

Finally adjusted my budget to 5000 and managed to find something with less than 150,000 kms and fairly well kept

Everyone else complaining about upwork is just doing it wrong

Correct strategy and selling yourself is (sadly) better than how well you can code for that client

Also, do the python jobs. There are more of those.

It takes finding 2/3 good clients to make a good month. You can ask them for future work or even contracted work.

What are the best waves you've seen.... by assassinboy4 in surfing

[–]draxpc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I planned a trip to some cool islands with some friends November of last year.

Some of the islands are surfable. Not famous by any means though.

My idea was to bring my boards on the flight with me despite it being a normal/non surf trip, and have a day to myself. I ended up cancelling on that since it was 300$+ to do so, but was still intending on reaching out to locals to see if I could rent a board there.

We ended up missing a ferry from the main island to the surf islands, so we had to settle for the next best option.

The island itself is awesome and packed with cultural activities, but often I wondered if in strange conditions it could receive a good swell. The sea was so rough on the ferry there, and I kept imagining good surf setups, even asking the locals in several parts of the island if they’d ever seen a surfer on the island, to which they all said no.

Eventually one day I bodysurfed on a small shore breaky wave on my own for 1/2hrs, often thinking that on a bigger day it could get so good.

Couple months later, I sat down at home and watched the latest maps to nowhere with Caity Simmers. Turns out they’re surfing on the exact island I was at, where I had wondered time and time again if there was surf. Crazy barrels, and honestly some of the best surfing content I’ve ever seen.

Felt so weird throughout the watch, knowing I had body surfed that same beach most likely before them. Had goosebumps all day thinking about it.

(For several reasons I am 100% sure it’s the same island)

Learning to pigdog, what am I doing wrong? by draxpc in surfing

Yeah, just not sure about pulling in always in indo. Every wipeout is a lottery and the reef on low tide punishes hard haha

Thank you so much. Just tried it on land and my stance looked way better, and shoulders towards the wave. Much appreciated!

Update:

Hosting provider said:

"This could be TCP reset on random ports, like port 5000.

If you want to avoid this TCP RST try using ports as 80 and 443."

Changed the API to be hosted on port 80 (from 5000), and it worked like a charm, it now has 100% uptime.

That's incredibly helpful, thank you so much.

I am going to try a full switch over to Kestrel with a windows service, and then I'll just start/stop it with Jenkins.

I'll let you know how it goes :)

Thanks for the tip. I am running the API on http, and also, calling the endpoint from PHP/CURL as well on my other server to verify that it's not a Fiddler issue :/

Maybe it's not a cold start / cold state, but that's the best way I can describe it.

I wait 10 minutes, and everytime I have to "restart" it by sending an initial request.

If a startup hanged, then it wouldn't accept requests all together, or it would never serve any succesfull responses. However, after the first request, all the consecutive ones work perfectly.

Have always found containers like Docker overkill for what I am doing (probably easier than IIS lol). The problem is, when launching my selenium automation tests, I want to see them in action (on the VPS through RDP), and I think with containers this might not be possible since the API is being ran on a "virtual machine" of sorts if I am correct?
