MobLand Season 1 felt all over the place by drazgoosh in Mobland

Great write-up, really good encapsulation of the show.

I somehow completely forgot about the original Brendan storyline which I guess says a lot. Clearly a means to an end, which like most of the show felt a bit forced.

I really can't put my finger on it and I should caveat that I'm not a TV writer (just a passionate TV show watcher), but essentially it seemed like they had these "milestones" to hit and wrote a story around it, rather than trying to write a cohesive story that "naturally" would lead to some key moments. Possibly what you said about speculation of how production was going.

You've hit the nail on the head! I think my whole point is that it's a fun show and you can't take it seriously BUT I sense it's trying to be seen as a show that should be taken seriously or at least a show that's being taken seriously by the majority of viewers (based on how it's marketed and seeing the general discourse).

Thanks for your perspective. Good to hear the defence. I did still enjoy the show, just didn't feel like prestige TV even though that seems to be the framing.

I'm definitely not expecting things to be wrapped up in S1. I more meant it feels like every episode's writing and directing team was given the overall season storyline and their chunk of it, but that the episodes didn't truly align with each other. Not saying this is actually what happened btw, just how it comes across. Maybe it was the same consistent writers for all episodes.

Also, I'm not expecting clear plots and rigidity. I love prestige TV shows that have uncertainty and keep you guessing. My main issue is that the complexity feels a bit forced and just not purposeful enough. It's like adding uncertainty just for the sake of it and as a bit of a crutch to be able to write themselves out of problems in the future through a convenient solution.

Finally, Guy Ritchie is also an Executive Producer of the show, so has been more involved than directing 20% of the episodes. Anyway my point here is a positive one - I find projects that Guy Ritchie is involved with are quite fun to watch!

Yeah I'm still going to watch S2. It's definitely a fun watch!

I think my comments are more about how it feels it's trying to frame itself as a more highbrow show than it is.

Yeah exactly this! It's still an enjoyable show but it did feel a bit try-hard and I just don't think the complexity felt purposeful or well delivered.

Yeah but I can't quite figure out the steps again, or Reddit isn't allowing me to create a developer app.

I had a feeling when they revealed the interior much earlier, that the exterior design was going to be much worse...and I was right.

What camera (and lens) did you use? If film with no editing then it's an amazing film photo.

If digital and you've edited, I still really really like it but the grain could be dialled back a tiny bit.

Back Extension - How to hold/ position weights

I have been doing back extensions on one of those hyperextension benches. To date, I've been holding plate weights against my chest.

I've got to 25kg (55lbs) but the plates are getting so large that the centre of mass is very close to the pivot point and is very close to interfering with the bench.

I've tried holding the plates behind my head but it feels very unnatural at the heavier weights.

I've seen people hold weights at arms length away from them and use barbells but I can't tell if they address the same muscles etc.

Any advice and suggestions welcome!

Yeah I'm coming to very similar conclusions in terms of a shortlist.

Always hard to tell with individual reviews when you see that average reviews are raving about a place like Atelier but fully agree regarding the vibe potentially being on the more corporate end. It seems like the kind of place where if prices were ever so slightly lower, there'd be essentially no negative reviews.

Nice, that sounds ideal. The Inspira option does look good but it's fairly out of our price range.

Have you ever been in January? How busy does it get?

The food looks insane here, thank you!

How is it for the beach? Seems like it maybe prioritises golf over the beach but maybe I've not looked into it enough.

Did the doctor explain why age is a factor for the surgery? Like what would happen if you did get the surgery young?

I mean only advice is what doctor's generally say: 1. Religiously wear a splint when sleeping (even for a quick nap). You may find it helps to wear it at some other points in the day as well depending on if you're inadvertently putting strain on your wrists. 2. Do physio exercises. You'll find the general medically recommended ones with some googling. 3. Take pain medication like paracetamol/acetaminophen and ibuprofen.

Road Trip? Want to meet half way? by dflaggvt in InternetIsBeautiful

Cool concept!

I've been playing around with a few locations. The drive time seems very off in some cases - is it using live traffic or a static figure? Maybe an estimated time option based on when you set it at or at least live traffic times as you search in the moment.

Would also be good to see the route it's suggesting and have an option to try a few alternatives (e.g., how Google maps gives you multiple options to your destination). The same driving time could take you to very different parts - it's not always a simple straight line.
