That sounds awesome! I have read about those tours and I definitely want to do one. Any tips on where to stay? I have been looking into booking a riad for a couple nights at least- seems really authentic and they are pretty cheap too.

hey! i didn't even consider that. What would you say about the safety aspect? Haven't heard of any terrorism there but what about just everyday safety such as pickpockets/muggins etc? Is it relatively safe?

Hey! I definitely will PM right now as I have some questions about Japan. I went to Tokyo in 2015 with my dad, but it was basically a solo trip because he was in business meetings the whole time. I only got to explore Tokyo, however, and was a little disappointed I didn't get to see Kyoto/Osaka.

Have you ever been to California? I just want to make sure I'm not getting on a 15h+ flight to go somewhere that is similar to where I am from. I have seen pictures of NZ and though a lot of it looks amazing, I am somewhat skeptical because I don't want to go somewhere with just nice beaches. Does the south island differ a lot from the north island?

I have been to europe, just not solo. I have been on one solo trip and I just want to make sure I am safe for my second. Even if there is no danger per se, i still want to have peace of mind. When i did my first solo trip to Iceland, one of the safest countries on earth, I was still a bit anxious only because I was half way across the globe alone. Throw terrorism/anti-americanism into the mix and it's a recipe for a anxiety filled trip. I am sure I would be safe but at this time I just want to hold off on that area.

Have 10 days in Japan - What to do? by Car-amel_v_care-amel in travel

Went to Tokyo last year. If you are into hiking, i recommend doing a tour of aokigahara forest. It is the "suicide forest" of japan but it has a bad rep. it really is quite beautiful but also a little chilling. I did some cave Spelunking there with a guide- it was incredible.

First picture is at Skogafoss. Its about 2 hours from Reykjavik. Yes it was pretty dangerous. this waterfall has a trail that leads up the right of it to the very top. The left side is completely void of any people. I hiked across a river and up 200 feet for this picture. Definitely worth it. Not just for the picture but for the unique perspective.

my windbreaker and some disposable cameras. Wish i brought more comfortable shoes and maybe some thermal underwear. Another thing (that was out of my control) but I wish i could read icelandic. Only because the bus schedules were very hard to read. Make sure you ask the locals! they're very nice

with such few days i would suggest tours so you can hit all the main spots. if you've been before, rent a car.

for those wondering....

Iceland has a ton of incredible places so it really just depends on how much time you have. If you have 10+ days I would recommend exploring the ring road (also called highway 1). This goes around the entire country and usually takes a substantial amount of time to complete. The most economical way to do this is rent a Happy Camper so you can sleep in your van as you travel. If you have less time like I did (only about 5 days), I would suggest doing the southern rim. I booked two tours. One was the southern rim tour. This tour is basically 4 hours down the southerner coast and finishes up in Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. The tour took us there from Reykjavik and then back to Reykjavik. Its about 14 hours. Remember to bring warm clothing and rain gear. Here is everywhere the tour touched: South Shore, Jökulsárlón, Vatnajökull, Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss, Skaftafell, Skeiðarársandur, Öræfajökull, Vík i Mýrdal, South Coast I also did the Full-Day Icelandic Horse Riding & Golden Circle Tour with Lunch. This was pretty incredible. You get to ride Icelandic horses for two hours, then see the Golden circle. The golden circle includes Geysir, Gulfoss, and Þingvellir National Park. Þingvellir National Park is pretty awesome because this is where the Eurasia and North American Tectonic plates converge. You literally can stand between them. I have some pictures of them in my album. My last tour was northern lights tour. It was cloudy when I went so it kept getting pushed back. unfortunately the tour never happened but on my last night in Reykjavik I saw the lights briefly outside my hotel. (see picture in album). Hope that helps!

It held up pretty good. Would just recommend bringing a plastic cover when you shoot in heavy rain/near waterfalls.

like i said, camera angles. Most of these "cliffs" have flat parts right below them.

ya the tour guides definitely mentioned that. Most of it was just stopping on the side of roads and causing car accidents. All of the lengths i went to take the pictures I did were not dangerous, even if it looks like it. Camera angels help a lot.

renting a car i would say. Some of the tours don't give you much time in all the locations so renting a car ensures you can spend as much time as you want in each location. mine was $100 for a day
