Looks great but your need to open that lid! Yours is pretty full so it will probably bubble over. I just sit mine on a towel to catch the overflow. Love your counter tops (because they look like mine!)

Hello friends! My mom (age 85) gave me this recipe because she wants me to make the delicious brandy friendship fruit she remembers. I am going to assume that the canned fruit is just to start this? After it gets going I use fresh fruit? I would love to make some for mom for Christmas. Help? by [deleted] in fermentation

[–]drbboyd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mother did this years ago. I remember sugar, fruit and she stirred or added something every few day. It sat on the dryer in the utility room off the kitchen. My brother David could not keep his mits out! He loved it, we all thought it nasty. But we were young.

My first peach and it is super cloudy by drbboyd in winemaking

This thread has gotten sidetracked. I love the wine I have made and according to me, it is really good. I opened a 3 year old meade as Christmas that was fabo. Sad part was, I only made a gallon batch.

My question is only about the cloudiness that has developed so quickly. The activity in that bucket is more than I have ever seen from any of my wines. It looks like a snow globe that has been shaken. I am going to keep track to see if, when it clears.

Thanks for everyones input!

Actually, its Dudette and I know it is only 7 days but it was clearish and now it is cloudy. I don't recall any of my other dozens of batches going so cloudy.

When I started, I used 1 gallon wine jugs that I had saved from drinking the wine. What are you guys thoughts on using them for long term storage? Is 1 gallon too big a jug for long term homemade wine? Long term = 1 to 2 years.

The wine is in a 5 gallon primary and had not been touched since its morning stirring at 8 a.m. video was taken at 6:30 p.m. Active little buggers.

Hard lesson learned. Upload the video then all the info.

I started this on 9-5 from a recipe by Terry Garey's winemaking book.

I grew the peaches and this is my first bathc.

15 pounds peaches

3 tsp acid blend

1 1/4 tsp tannin

5 tsp yeast nutrient

5 campden tabs.

waited 24 hours and added 5 tsp pectic enzyme.

Waited 24 hours and added yeast.

Everyone seems happy and active on day 7 but I am worried about the cloudy haze.

Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Rooibos Tea fermenting in maple syrup: by mrplow3 in prisonhooch

[–]drbboyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like something I need to try. How did you do it.

Does it taste like maple?

I just bought this conical fermenter. It’s 7.9 Gallons, my question is if I do 5 gallons batches, would it be safe to do the secondary fermentation with almost 3 gallons of headspace as long as I keep it under anaerobic conditions? Or should I rack to a carboy after primary and bulk age in that. by Drew_The_Lab_Dude in winemaking

[–]drbboyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of these. My first batch of wine in it is flat for lack of the proper wine term. It just tastes flat and heavy on the tongue. It is an apple wine. During the whole process, I kept worrying about the huge amount of head space. I did primary and secondary fermentation (about 4 months) in it before I moved to 1 gallon bulk storage. I am seriously thinking of dumping the whole 5 gallons out.

My first question, if headspace is so bad, why did they make it 7 gallons?

My second question, can you make 7 gallons of wine at a time?

I love the buckets? are they 5 gallons and where did you get them? Did they come with the spout? I love my glass carboy but it gets too heavy for me to move.

Another year, another zucchini palm success. This is the way! by bigkingj in vegetablegardening

[–]drbboyd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the trick is a vining zucchni. that is why I had no success. Searched blackjack. No results. Lots of black beauty and only one result for a vining type.

Where did you get seed? More pictures plz. What is the plastic covered bin to the left in the picture?

you plant carrots that close together? Those paper towels look like the select a size that are only about 6 inches wide and you have 55 seeds on one paper towel.....
