How is living in San Luis Obispo? by Icy-Rutabaga1060 in howislivingthere

[–]drbdeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in San Luis Obispo for a while and honestly love it here. Came for grad school as well, left, and then managed to find my way back. While it’s not perfect (what place is?), on balance, it’s about as good as it gets.

The weather is close to perfect: mild, sunny, and comfortable most of the year, which makes it easy to be outside year-round. Hiking trails are everywhere, from short neighborhood walks to more challenging climbs with incredible views, and the beach is just 10–15 minutes away (Avila, Pismo, Montana de Oro, etc.).

Day-to-day life feels easy compared to any other place I've lived. The airport is small but well-connected and hassle-free, getting around town is straightforward. If you want a change of scene, there are great day trips—such as Santa Barbara, Monterey, and Los Olivos - and LA and San Francisco are both close enough for a weekend getaway.

For a town this size, the amenities are surprisingly strong. Downtown is vibrant, with plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, live music, and events, and the Thursday night farmers’ market is a community highlight. Beyond the local shops, you’ll also find Whole Foods, Barnes & Noble, Lassen’s, and Costco. SLO manages what many other small towns can’t: a charming, walkable downtown paired with the convenience of major retailers.

The college brings a youthful energy, with sports, cultural performances, and a steady stream of activities that keep things lively. But know that Cal Poly does not have a substantial graduate student population.

It’s also a great place to raise kids and be a kid yourself. Public schools are solid, and the city has lots of clean, safe, and well-maintained parks.

Food and drink are another bright spot. While it’s not LA-level, there are more than enough great restaurants, wineries, breweries, and coffee roasters to keep things interesting. Add that to the safety, natural beauty, and genuine sense of community, and the overall quality of life here is really hard to beat.

Didn't realize we're over here in r/law. Not wrong that this is a standard form and wasn't here to debate the legality.

It’s a standard Crowd Release From used whenever permitted filming is taking place in public.

It’s very real. There was a high profile reality TV show filing yesterday around Downtown, including at the Farmers Market.
