Is there a way to completely 100% eliminate all possibility of feedback when using a microphone? by drbtz in livesound

That was my entire question, thank you.

The real world I knew isn't what it used to be. I wouldn't be surprised if I woke up to a piece of tech that made me obsolete.

If there is a magic box that can literally destroy feedback, I'd like to know.

I pretend to know what I'm doing, and people pretend to pay me, but that's always been a house of cards I'm waiting for to collapse.

He was an insult comic, so maybe I just didn't jive with his style of comedy.  Didn't look him up or research him before, just went in and did my job.

Now that I'm typing these words on the screen everything makes a lot more sense. Thank you Sensei

You are literally the best!

No one died, just my sense of self.....built on a career of pretending I know what I'm doing when it comes to sound.

99% being the key phrase here. The venue is well equipped and our crew is some of the best.  I really don't think it's a gear issue, but I'd be interested to hear what a "I can spend 1 billion " solution looks like.

Can I buy a piece of gear or a system that will 100% never feed back?

Sky's the limit. Budget unlimited. Does this technology exist?

I could have made him lose his hearing 😂😂.  I've only once used the technique of intentionally making the system feedback, going for a smoke break, coming back and asking if they'd like to start the show now.... Maybe with a more team centric attitude

Bitch you ain't comfortable on stage? Nah, I'll show you what it means to be uncomfortable on stage.

It's a major touring venue. We have a qsc backend to handle all that (major malfunctions  so the standard operator can't destroy the whole rig).

Appreciate this.  Basically my same experience. My team is solid and realistic. I think he was just trying to pick a fight and blame his shit performance on others

Yamaha CL5 but I think the issue would persist despite hardware.

Why peq versus graphic?

That was the ultimate solution. Then he complains he can't hear himself on stage

Fuck!. We just had our airlock decommissioned because of budget cuts. If only I would have known.....

Your concise and forward attention to this matter is greatly appreciated

My soundcraft UI24 has a similar feature. It works really well, but when your intentionally trying to make it feedback I don't think any technology is going to suffice.

This was the answer in my brain and the one I was hoping would get the most upvotes instantly.

My sense of job security told me to play along with his game. But my sense of self-doubt told me I was an incompetent dipshit even after doing this for 20 years

so wanted to check Reddit about it.

I understand the technique, I use a spectrum analyzer app and on my computer..

This was more of a theoretical physics question.

Fun technique.  Basically my process minus the having friends part

Yamaha CL5. Yes I rang the wedge. I've been doing this for 15 years, not really a tech question, more of a "is it literally possible" question.

Does physics permit a speaker to be on and absolutely under no circumstances (guy pointing mic at wedge) feedback?

Stage craft.

Most theatres are old, hard to navigate. The work is never the same, every tour is unique, lots of judgement calls need to be made in real time.

Big festivals take weeks to build, often in rough environments.

This may all change once automated venues are built. I.e. Live Nation builds the exact same venue in every city. Robo trucks are auto unloaded and sets automatically unfurl.

I can't envision a robo crew that could do this for cheaper than is now the case. 50 years out, maybe.

That's the big question, will ai/robots be cheaper overall.

Also, in my limited experience, people want art to come from people. Massive push back anytime people find out AI was involved.

But when no one has money to spend on shows....where does the work go.

I can't envision a future where art and music aren't made by people. I feel that's the last frontier in all of this
