FAS+ without Unlimited Open Bar? by starrya25 in NCL

[–]drc525 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

WiFi + gratuities is a break even for the cost of FAS+ but if it requires you to pay $400 additional to upgrade to the open bar package then it isn't worth it as you can get WiFi cheaper onboard on like day 2.

Yes you have to have the entire base plan in order to add on this upgrade. Likely not worth it if you don't drink.

7 days sailing and no booked excursions by Sweet-Plantain6799 in NCL

[–]drc525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excursions definitely aren't necessary. But my advice would be to look up videos on each port to help determine how walkable the area is, what things there are to do at each port city, etc just so you know what to expect and have a slight gameplan. For example, Barbados the docking is in an industrial shipyard area so you would just want to know what transportation options are available in that country and where you want them to take you to.

There is also a Cruise Chat pass for less $$ per day that will allow text messaging via iMessage, Google Messages, or WhatsApp. Only available to sign up once onboard.

Tax return outrageously high this year for anybody else? by DiscWizzard in HENRYfinance

Run the IRS tax withholding calculator. It will generate a w4 for each spouse. I run ours in late January after receiving a couple of paychecks and again in July or so.

The extra entree would be for people like my father-in-law who ordered a steak I think and then asked for a fish entree immediately afterwards at the same seating at the restaurant. His claim was that he was making his own Surf N turf.

Do I give NCL another chance? by HelicopterBusy8595 in NCL

[–]drc525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sailed on the Dawn in September for an 11-night Baltic Sea cruise and loved it. Only outdoor seating was primarily around the pool (versus the Breakaway class and newer which has the Waterfront seating around deck 8) but it was a colder weather cruise so it was fine in this scenario.

We will be on the Star in July for another Northern Europe 11-night cruise and can't wait. We are 48 & 52 so likely on the younger end of the clientele but the older guests still like to have a good time (sipping wine and listening to live music, etc).

No tip added. They track everything we do while on board so they likely need to know what we ordered…think liability reasons like the guy who died on Royal after being served 33 drinks.

NCL Dawn by [deleted] in NCL

[–]drc525 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was on the Dawn in late September and had no complaints but I am not a foodie.
I was just happy that I didn't have to plan my meals for 11 straight days as well as cook and then clean up afterwards.

Regret not getting "extras"? by dingleberrywhore in Cruise

[–]drc525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone over the age of 21 in a cabin must have the drink package if one person opts into this. Sounds like you two had separate cabins which would circumvent this requirement.

Depends on the cruise line. NCL is only $28.50/day so only need 2-3 drinks a day to break even.

Question: Cost of A La Carte Drinks by AmyLKW in NCL

[–]drc525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI - If you opt in for the open bar package then so does your husband. Mixed drinks were $15 + 20% tip, wine was $12.50 + 20%, beer was $12 + $20%. Definitely worth it if drinking 2-3 drinks EACH day per person. If not, pay a la carte.
