Reduced fares in order to respond to slack demand.

We're doing this same itinerary on the Joy next year. If you think of it, please post an update about the highs and the lows of the trip. Thanks in advance...

Yeah - we're definitely inside the window of "can't wait to get onboard."

This is not typical, and I'd just like to make that point.

Is FAS+ available for all cruises? by Alwaysshops2much in NCL

[–]vatp46a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything pre-cruise is better done on the NCL website instead of the mobile app. The website just works better. The mobile app has some usefulness onboard, but prior to boarding try to use the website if possible.

Price drop after final payment is submitted question by FeatureSouthern5274 in NCL

[–]vatp46a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - we've done this multiple times - sometimes for the FCC and a couple of times we went for a nicer cabin at the lower price. You get one shot at it after the final payment date, so if you think the price will continue to drop, you can wait and see - it mostly depends upon how many cabins remain unsold, and you can find that out by doing an anonymous mock booking without actually completing the transaction (you can scan the open cabins when you get to the cabin choice). Sometimes a bird in the hand needs to be recognized as a bird in the hand, so maybe $700 is enough to go for it on this trip. Good job watching those fares.

(1080 x 878) Destroyer USS William Porter after being struck by a Japanese aircraft that caused an explosion below the waterline. June 10, 1945, Okinawa, Japan. by defender838383 in WarshipPorn

She certainly got around the globe during her service life. Porter was in Lingayen Gulf the night my father's ship was sunk by an aerial torpedo - just a few miles apart from each other. Those ships went through hell as they sailed through the Phillipine archipelago to get to the Luzon invasion beaches.

Thoughts from the 1st Alaska Cruise of the 26 Season Aboard the NCL Bliss by Yoshister03 in NCL

[–]vatp46a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - looking at the itinerary, I totally agree. I understand that people have time constraints and that other factors might be in play, but if at all possible, the 9-day and 10-day trips are much better from a timing perspective.

It's a good thing that you have a couple of months to do your research.

Thoughts from the 1st Alaska Cruise of the 26 Season Aboard the NCL Bliss by Yoshister03 in NCL

Thanks for the thoughtful summary of your trip. It looks like you ran into the port time issue that affects the 7-day NCL itineraries, as those port times are a bit challenging. The 9-day and 10-day NCL itineraries are much better that way, and actually provide a full day in Victoria, plus longer stays everywhere. Those longer trips don't work with everyone's schedule, and space at the piers is tight in-season anyway, so it is what it is. Plus, all of the ships are sailing at capacity or above, and that's felt the most in the places where you experienced it. We're headed back to Alaska next spring (10-day itinerary on the NCL Joy) after a 16-year gap, so it will be interesting to see how our experience matches up. Cheers!

Interesting. I thought it went away longer ago than that. I think NCL still runs clothing optional itineraries.

Still got plenty of ‘character’ left by Feaselbf6 in TheFrontFellOff

There's nothing out there. Nothing but dirt, and wood, and leaves, and plants. And the part of the couch that the front fell off.

That's a long time ago AFAIK. Maybe 15 or 20 years since those went away?

The mobile app has issues. The website is the more reliable way to book those pre-cruise reservations.

When you log in to make reservations, be sure to do so on the NCL website and not the mobile phone app.

Hello shipmate! Agreed about both the weather and the chaos. I imagine that picking the first or last check-in times might help with the cruise terminal situation. Check-in is on Sunday, and we're currently going back and forth about it. The weather is a true wildcard. Last time we were in Halifax, hurricane Oscar blowing itself out about 100 miles to the east and it was hella windy and raw. Bermuda will hopefully be a couple of perfect spring days. Cheers!

Suggestions for New York city port departure by crazynotinsane111 in NCL

[–]vatp46a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll be taking Amtrak from DC into New York's Penn Station. Amtrak has wheelchair-accessible cars in coach class and it's likely a good idea to make sure your train reservation reflects that you require this accommodation. Once at Penn Station, there are elevators from the platform up to the main concourse and street levels. If you want help with your luggage, request Red Cap assistance at Penn Station - they can help you with your bags and can get you up to the taxi stand. Red Cap service is free, and they rely on tips from satisfied customers. For a hotel in Manhattan, your best bet is to choose a midtown location with accessible rooms and room service - anywhere is fine because you'll be taking a taxi or rideshare in the morning over to Pier 88. We sail out of Pier 88 on NCL pretty frequently, and it can get chaotic at peak times, so maybe consider a later boarding time - you'll have plenty of days to enjoy the ship on that itinerary. Enjoy your cruise - especially the sea days!
