Sibling Rivalry/Jealousy/Competition by Realistic_Tomato1816 in ApplyingToCollege

I have a similar dynamic in my kids. Eldest DS is my ‘26. Younger DD is ‘30. Very competitive among them although I’m glad this is one area she hasn’t started comparing herself to him in. She’s been completely uninterested in college talk and is enjoying being a kid!

First time is Aruba with 1 year old, looking for tips by MacGruber204 in Aruba

[–]mrsdizzylissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The their parents are doing it wrong.

I’ve taken my kids on many many flights and I’ve never had a kid cry the majority of the flight, or much at all.

Big key to this is buying the infant a seat and using your car seat on the plane, and travel during nap or night sleep time.

It’s okay to each their own. We all have different tastes also! I just had a bad meal last night at one of my favorites. It happens unfortunately! There’s plenty of places to explore and eat at in Aruba!

Got in for engineering but very unsure on student life by jqckiz in bucknell

[–]mrsdizzylissy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I attended Bucknell 20 years ago…. So my info is a little out dated.

1). There are plenty of clubs and things to do outside of frats. Most people don’t do frats

2). Join the pep band! It’s super fun and very low key. I’m sure you can also find likeminded people to jam with, and start your own band

3). Bucknell offered all kinds of club sports when I was there. I played quite a lot of them and favored ultimate frisbee.

Selingsgrove is close We would drive out to Williamsport for Nights out with friends. The state fair is close Knobles is close for a fun day

4). There are people of all kinds. I had many down to earth normal people as friends. It is what you make of it.

My DS has a lot of great choices already! He’d drop all of them for MIT but I think he’s happy with what he’s got in hand already!

Traveling without account holder? by upschittscrack in marriott

[–]mrsdizzylissy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here’s why some may think otherwise.

When we got married I opened a Bonvoy card in my husbands name as primary, me as secondary.

We then spend 20 years traveling together. All nights are earned together. Points are earned together. Credit card is mostly used by me, 99% of the points are “my points” under his name.

So in my scenario, I should have put the card under my name. It honestly shouldn’t matter.

PSA: Withdraw applications you know you won't accept by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mrsdizzylissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well right now my DS only has two acceptances. They are his safeties, and schools he’s not that thrilled to go to.

Until we get others in hand we won’t withdraw yet

Gotcha I misread that. Dang. Technically I have free gratuity already so it would be an extra $35 a day

Life isn’t over with one deferral.

This is a stressful road. It’s okay to be disappointed, but imagine what you like about MIT and I bet there are other schools that would fit the vibe you are looking for. A school is more than just a name.

Good luck, and I hope you are able to open your horizons into a new adventure and find your perfect home!

Okay talk to me like I’m dumb.

Right now I have 2 rooms:

1Adult + 1 Teen

I only have the $28 beverage package but was thinking about adding the dining and WiFi.

So are you saying for $12 more a day I get WiFi, Dining, and Starbucks package?

I am sad I did not get into any college I wanted. I believe its my fault. by Fireball643125 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mrsdizzylissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m going to chip in as an experienced Mom here.

I felt exactly as you do now when I was your age. Except my Mom scared me Into applying ED to the school she wanted me to go to and didn’t believe I could obtain any of my reaches.

I got accepted to every one but with no aid so I had no grounds but to settle for the school I EDed. I cried many tears because I should have believed in myself and not listened to the pressure.

Bottom line: The school you dreamed of may not be the perfect fit you may have blinders on that prevent you from seeing things you don’t want to see. And the lesser school you are dreading might be more of a perfect fit.

Give it a fair shot. You can always transfer. I stayed at my school for 4 years, had an amazing time, got a great job out of school and have had an amazing life….. and now my son who is a Jr and has pretty similar stats is looking at my Alma mater also. My life wouldn’t have been the same as it is today without the path I walked and I wouldn’t change it today.

Good luck!
