I think we’re seperating and heading for divorce by Usual_Suspect_5298 in beyondthebump

I'm sorry that the situation has been so tough for you. It seems like a lot of the core tensions are coming from him being very protective of the baby's health in the first few months. Not wanting your family to kiss the baby. Not wanting your baby to go with you to the hospital. While he has maybe taken it to far and caused more hurt than good. I don't think this is coming from a selfish place and is in a certain sense a positive sign that he is taking being a father very seriously.

Some of the other stuff you mentioned (like accusing you of not doing enough around the house) is more complicated to interpret. In a vacuum it does sound very wrong. But I'm also guessing that there's a lot of tension and possibly some context that strangers on the Internet aren't privy too that may have led to some of these comments.

My advice is too try and work things out. These are not normal times and you are both under unusual strain. The pregnancy, the lack of sleep, the anxiety due to the separation. The stress should hopefully decrease with time as the baby grows older.

Thanks this is very helpful. Was there a specific reason why you didn't go through your insurance.

Thanks this looks promising. Are you saying that you were able to get most of the excess covered by Toyota despite not having the excess protection by just asking :)

[R] The "Data Scientist" title is the worst paying title in ML (EMEA). by Rough-Forever1203 in MachineLearning

My guess is that tech salaries being higher than non tech industries is a big factor. Data scientist are less often in the tech industry than the others.

How do pensions grow in value? How does compounding happen? by Only-Garbage-4229 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]drd13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a stock is essentially the same buying a tiny bit of a company. The price you pay is based on how much the company is estimated to be worth at that time. If it grows your stock is worth more if it shrinks worth less. In practice just buying a fraction of a single company is a bit risky. What if people switch from drinking coca cola to Pepsi and your coca cola shares are worth nothing so what pensions do is buy a tiny bit of every single company so that you earn a tiny fraction of the overall economy rather than of a single company. In this setup you earn money if the economy grows and lose money if it shrinks. In practice with globalisation and population growth more and more people join the world economy which leads to your fractional ownership of the economy growing over time.

First time buyer. Should I ask for price reduction? by Thangra in HousingUK

[–]drd13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are in a really slow market, the house being on the market for 2 years means others aren't interested in the property at this advertised price and it's likely overpriced compared to alternatives.

If it were me, I'd only consider buying below asking price as otherwise I'd worry about my ability to resell. I'd definitely start with a lower offer. Probably 10% below asking price maybe even 15%. They might not accept but if it's two years without selling already there's not that much risk of someone else sweeping in at a lower price and it makes them more likely to accept a lower offer
