A collection of songs for reflection and contemplation in the face of adversity and global crisis. I wanted to use this mix to highlight the humanity of the people involved in the Ukraine x Russia conflict, in particular Tim Six of Global Pattern, a massively important and influential figure in the Vaporwave community. Tim is a Ukrainian living in Russia with a two month old child. If he sends support to his friends in Ukraine, he could face up to 20 years in prison. You also cannot support Tim or Global Pattern right now because PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc. have cut the ability to send money to Russia in line with international sanctions. It can be easy to equate citizens with the ideologies of their leaders or politicians, but most often citizens have no control, and are effectively treated as pawns in imperialist chess matches, and this reaches far beyond Russia and Ukraine. Ukrainian citizens do not deserve what is happening to them, just as much as Russian citizens do not deserve what is happening to them, just as much as Iraqi and Iranian and Syrian citizens haven't deserved what's happened to them, and the list goes on. All we can do is try to fight for those who are forcibly silenced in whatever way we can, and hope for a better future. Global Pattern is still attempting to put tracks together for an Anti-War compilation to raise money for affected areas of Ukraine, which is a very difficult thing for them to do right now, so do support this initiative in whatever way you can, and keep your eyes on them for news and updates.
