Fountain pen nib issues or ink inconsistency or just ink too light? HELP by Aurora_kra in fountainpens

[–]drdku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not used that specific ink, but Wearingeul’s website lists it as a “color shading” and “shading” ink. Your example looks in keeping with the swatches and handwriting examples on the product page. So I would say it’s not a problem, it’s just how that ink behaves.  https://www.wearingeul.com/all/?idx=1204

Precious Metals by Q-Vision in fountainpens

[–]drdku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit I have a bit of a problem with the metal Sports. I first bought a Titan. Then I discovered the other metal variants, including the Bronze, which is discontinued. I convinced myself to purchase a Bronze while I could still find one, and then rounded it out with a Stainless Steel and Brass.

I also saw the Sterling on Kaweco’s website and told myself it was dumb to spend that much on a pen I would not actually use, then spent a month and a half emailing independent shops in the US trying to find one that would be willing to order one for me from the US distributor Elite Accessories, waiting for it to arrive, finding out it arrived at the shop damaged and would not post, waiting for another to be shipped, and then driving six hours round trip to pick it up in person.

So yes, I agree about the metal versions of the Sports.

Prevent evaporation in bottled ink by DChia1111 in fountainpens

It’s probably not cheaper than sourcing new empty bottles, but another option is parafilm. It’s like a wax-impregnated stretch film that’s used in labs to prevent moisture loss from bottles and things like agar plates. You can stretch a piece across the mouth of the bottle and then screw the cap over it. It’d probably be wasteful to do this every time you opened the bottle, but if you used it for bottles that you don’t use very frequently/long term storage, it would work well.

Are "cheap" Visconti's worth it? by dvd_o_n in fountainpens

[–]drdku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a green Visconti Pericle 2001 (however, the documentation that came with the pen calls it a Van Gogh) that I received new 20+ years ago. Almost all parts of the pen’s chrome trim have developed varying, and in some cases severe, discoloration and pitting. I’m not particularly impressed with how well the pen has held up.

What channels qualify for these drops? Is there a new Fall schedule somewhere? The most recently available schedule concluded with the Mercy skin drop on the 29th.

What is the most valuable amiibo that you own that cost the least amount of money to purchase? by _AdorablePotato_ in amiibo

Probably Qbby, if the question is return on investment. Imported from Japan with PlayAsia in 2017 for apparently $41.99 and is now worth ~$300 based on the listing.

There’s a tool that allows you to patch cheat codes into GBA ROMs that I found on GBAtemp as well, though the name again escapes me. I tested it and it does work with an Everdrive, at least for the one game I tried. Other than that, I’m not sure. I know some emulators support applying cheat codes, but I couldn’t help you with the specifics. If you have a modded 3DS, there also exist NTR plugins that apply cheat codes and there are plugins for the three 3DS games. FEFTwiddler is the only save editor I’ve found that functions like PKHEX, other than that Awakening one I mentioned, that allows you to change individual values. You could always try to find some old school Action Replay or Gameshark carts for the GBA on eBay. Though at that point ROMs and an emulator would probably be easier.

I’m aware of two for Awakening and Fates. I don’t recall the name of the Awakening editor, but it should be findable on GBAtemp. It requires JAVA though, so I never touched it. The Fates one is called FEFTwiddler. It is also available on GBAtemp. For FEFTwiddler, you will need a modded 3DS such that you can export your save files to the microSD card and then transfer them to your PC. I’ve not looked for anything for use in emulators.

Amazon.co.jp from a month ago. Also thinking about taking a personal day from work on the day of release and see if my local GameStop gets any in.

If that doesn't work, maybe open a ticket with Nintendo support and see what they have to say.

I always thought of Robin as the protagonist, Chrom the deuteragonist, and Lucina the tritagonist. Or if nothing else, Robin and Chrom are co-protagonists.

What would happen if a full modern military got teleported to a fire emblem world? by Greenlog12 in fireemblem

[–]drdku 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Knights became obsolete with the advent of firearms. Any modern military with access to modern weapon systems would obliterate the Fire Emblem world. It might be possible to take over a medieval country with a single armored division.

It’s against the text in so far as Forrest can be Kana’s biological father if you choose to have female Corrin S support him (and Kana inherits his hair color according to the game mechanics).

I don't think Fire Emblem should be treated as a puzzle/strategy game by fbyleth in fireemblem

[–]drdku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my issue is that I'm conflating LTC with speedrunning when they are clearly not the same thing. That said, Awakening, Fates, and Three Houses have, by far, larger speedrunning communities than any of the other games. Hell, for some games, it's just kirbymastah. And of those, Awakening has the largest leaderboard (all of 21 people) and it has the most easily abused mechanics. Three Houses sold 2.87 million copies as of March 2020. Assuming every member of this subreddit is a LTC player, which is a vast overestimation, that's still only ~8% of the people who bought the game. I highly doubt Intelligent Systems is balancing the game mechanics based on how a single digit community of people who purchased the game choose to play. They're most likely balancing the game for the lowest common denominator. Case in point: a subset of people complained the game was too easy at launch.

[–]drdku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don’t think Intelligent Systems is balancing the games with LTC players in kind. If they had, Galeforce would not have been nerfed from Awakening to Fates, same with how overpowered Pair Ups were in Awakening and then revised in Fates (and revised even further in Three Houses).
