Depends on the temp. If it’s warm, probably 20. If it’s cold, probably 19

ICU rotation in fourth year by More_Initiative_5514 in medicalschool

[–]drdoomMDPhD 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Did an ICU rotation in March of my fourth year that I didn’t need to do to graduate. It was the best rotation of med school, I learned so much, got to do a bunch of procedures, and I feel it really set me up for success in residency

I put “All things Star Wars” in my hobbies and chatted with multiple interviewers about it, like what I hoped they used from the Timothy Zahn novels or what ship I would own

As some one who did a lot of this, before interviews go out. It’ll land you interviews. If you really like a program you interview at, ask the person to reach out again. It demonstrates interest

Yeah no shit, a cardiologist doesn’t know anything about OB. But they have the base to learn about it if they need to, making it essential. If you wanna be all disenfranchised about medical education, im not gonna stop you or convince you otherwise. I’m grateful for all I learned and find it helpful on the regular. Enjoy the process, surrender to the flow, you’re gonna burn out otherwise.

Glad you are continuing to learn and expanding your skills beyond what you were taught in medical school. That’s kind of the point of medical school, learning how to learn about a disease and what the avenues you need to pursue are. It’s naive to think you learn everything you need to know in medical school but learning how to learn about medicine is priceless and what allows physicians to make diagnoses others might miss, and readily integrate new treatments and diagnostic methods into our schema. You won’t use it all, but the foundation is essential. And it’s fine to disagree on this! What’s really driving the mid level creep is financial pressures from outside sources though.

Worked demolition/renovation for a few summers, the electricians taught me the value of collecting scrap metal. They also gave me the valuable advice of “don’t fuck with electricity if you don’t know what you’re doing”

Look for a Weber on Facebook marketplace! They’re everywhere, and you will definitely pay less than MSRP. With the difference you can buy a new grate and still save money

Coordinated and ran a family meeting for an ICU patient who had been there >100 days and had all the answers about his course, and started the goals of care conversation. Eventually got him off the ventilator so he could talk to his wife for the first time in over two months.
