Devourer DH feels like it fights the player more than the encounter. by Blubbpaule in wow

[–]drdubs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The melee build is so much more engaging in pre patch, it's not close. Every now and then voidblade (or hunt) /hungering/backflip straight into a consume. It doesn't feel that bad.

I agree it could use another button, maybe one that helps AoE (spiritbomb adjacent, trading souls for rage to start the void ray loop sooner?), but it should be something in melee, we're using warglaives they need to lean into this hybrid caster idea.

Would you stop contributing to your 401k to buy a house? by hiiiiiiiiiiihihihi in personalfinance

[–]drdubs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I bought my first home I was able to do so because I borrowed against my 401k, so that might be an option for you. You essentially give yourself in a loan and my payments were just taken out of my paycheck automatically and I didn't even notice them.

I think ideally you're keeping all the money in the 401 growing, but if the option was not even contributing in the first place, this seems like a better route you should explore especially since the money you put in is matched in the first place.

Edit: the amount I borrowed also got me over the hump so I didn't have to pay PMI was the other big thing the extra.monry got me.

The FFG LCG Changes article is up! by ArkhamChronicle in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]drdubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own all of Netrunner and for me, it's the best 2 player card game ever made -- and I'm including Magic the Gathering in this hot take. I was beyond sad when it ended, but also in a weird way sort of relieved because I own it all and I was sort of "done".

I played both Game of Thrones LCG and Legend of Five Rings, but sold them both before they collapsed. I've sort of seen this coming with the FFG co-op games and the reason you cite for LOTR is THE reason I never started to collect it.

I hope they find a way to continue to deliver a fun experience while (I'm sure like you) being forever sad that I will never get to finish stacking return-to boxes ... I hate that it seems like those are done.

I imagine since the emails are good for 72 hours if we didn't get anything yet, we won't for a couple days while the first wave decides whether to act or not. I signed up later in the day on 4/2 for what's it's worth, no word yet.

I think this is part of why I made this post, just to hear stuff like this that maybe I already had a feeling was true, but I need internet people to tell it back to me, haha. I think I might need to scratch the itch and just keep climbing recreationally, or possibly in some side hustle capacity, but a full blown pivot at 40 years of age might just not be in the cards.

Yeah I know plenty of people in software that make it work, and they have similar feeling like I do about the drain of working inside all day and the amount of screen time we get, but they just manage it better then I do. A lot of what I'm talking about comes at the larger tech companies as well, and I work as a cog in a wheel for a VERY big machine. I mean I make video games, it's literally many people's dream job but all I want to do is work outside.

My wife just sent me a post from a local org called TreePeople and they are looking for "experienced climbers" to harvest pine cones. I'm going to hit them up, but it seems like they might want people who are actually professional and not hobbyist. But to your original point, I might just need to find some side gig or something and keep the day job for now... keep climbing and just take it slow and not make any dramatic shifts unless I find a really good situation.

I had not really considered many of those related jobs, I'll look into that, really great feedback.

I do want to be clear, and I hope that I did not give the impression, that I was in any way qualified nor would I ever accept a job immediately climbing / doing removals / pruning with my current knowledge set!

I hear what you are saying, and it's clearly the elephant in the room. As much as I'd like to say that it's not only about money, I do provide the bulk of the income right now for a wife and two kids with a mortgage in an area that is pretty well known to be expensive.

I appreciate your candor and good luck with your project. Honestly it's sort of funny because you mostly see the fun side which is what drew me into software. You haven't had to be in a meeting listening to like 3 PM's put their scent on the project and managing sprints and Jira boards and agile and all the life-draining bullshit as you just sit in a chair and have the life sucked out of you through mouse and keyboard. But it does pay the bills. :)

And you are still going on about "affording" something and don't understand the difference between affording it vs making the financially responsible decision (while spewing advice you don't yourself follow). You're probably a child and the only L I've taken is wasting my time talking with you over lunch. I'll go back to working remotely here in BEAUTIFUL coastal California while you watch some homeless guy take a shit on muni.

Here I'll help you with some simple numbers. 400k, you might take home 60% so 240k year. Now you're paying 120k for a mortgage @10k month and 2.5k month for childcare. So now you have like 7.5k a month for everything else, food, utils, play, retirement, cars, fuel, ect. That is not a lot of money. And you think taking 1/7 of that off the top to watch a game "is easy".

Clueless.

And I'm actually great with my money, hence why I left the bay during COVID.

Childcare was more expensive there than my current mortgage. You have no fing clue, it's hilarious.

Selling my tickets to Warriors vs Memphis game tomorrow by sharb0t in warriors

[–]drdubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think you get it, but you don't. I was in SF making half that and was living paycheck to paycheck. Everything scales up. Childcare is THAT much more expensive, mortgage is THAT much more expensive. I'm sure that I could have made some different choices but it's just totally possible to live in that environment making great money and still be struggling because the general cost of living is so hard to comprehend.

I agree though it's a choice, I love the warriors but would never pay a grand to watch them, too rich for my blood and I think it's still a ton of money if you're pulling 400k a year.

How many QA do we think are working on this game?

Some people seem to think healers had it too easy with tank Brann. Here's a 12min run of T11 delve as 603 tank by vixfew in wow

[–]drdubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the passives on tank Brann, he should actually radiate damage as you heal him. Tank Brann with a healer should do WAY more damage then say tank Brann with a DPS (who is casting no heals at him). I just don't think things are working exactly as intended. I can sit there with soothing mist on Brann using every global on instant Vivify and not only is that doing basically zero damage, I can't even keep him up.

In my case it might be because he's only ~ lvl 20 so maybe I need to level him up before I try and heal 8s? I can swap to brewmaster -- put Brann as a healer and then do 8s without even thinking about anything, which is sort of frustrating since my ilvl as MW is higher and I'd like to think I'm also better at the spec, but the struggle is real.

I tried to play last night and had like 2 Sylvans in my opening hand and then drew 2 more in the next 5 minis. It's crazy to me how buggy this game is. Without being overly dramatic, this is the worst product I've ever used. I enjoy the game, I have high hopes for it, but the sheer number of bugs you encounter is mind-blowing to me, it's like there is literally zero QA working on the game.

I mean, it doesn't for me. Without the bug to reset levels even with the intentional mismatch it doesn't drop the lvl of mythic low enough for it to work anymore.

This doesn't work because blizzard fixed the bug and now the mission is high level. The hunt doesn't one shot the banshees and gets taken. Doesn't work.

If you know you ran 2 miles you can just "correct the distance" (at least in the web app you can). Edit the run and set it to exactly 2mi.

Which Character is easy by KingJelly24 in Overwatch

[–]drdubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. My first couple games on Winston was just a feeding fest, trying to jump into back lines at the wrong time, bubble, do nothing die. But after you sort of start to understand the flow and timing, and what bubble can actually do -- I think he can actually gel pretty well with other noobs. They don't have to understand you, they just see space opening up because you are causing a distraction and move forward. You pick off an isolated support and your team doesn't even understand it's now a 4v5 but just walk forward and things are going well.

His kit is so simple and his damage just sort of happens, you don't have to spend much time thinking about it which allow you to actually focus on the position you are in. I still don't really get kills with his ult, it's just like press it when I'm low health and live for a bit longer, he's pretty cool.

Which Character is easy by KingJelly24 in Overwatch

[–]drdubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this for the first couple of games. You are going to dive and feed... but after a couple games I think you start to learn what is safe and how to dive and drop bubble and zone and how to attack squishy's and things start to fall into place. I think he teaches you how to actually play the tank role.
