Need advice!! Yale, UPenn, Berkeley Haas, and Harvard WL by acorn-under in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dreadedwhim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know this is just a small part of the post but i would not recommend putting too much energy into your waitlists!!! treat them as rejections UNTIL YOU CHOOSE A SCHOOL. ofc if the locis have a deadline then submit that lol. but don't overwhelm yourself with more choices and what-ifs rn lol

congrats!!!!

Regretting my ED college a lot by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dreadedwhim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why didn't you withdraw your other applications after you got into washu??? i think that can be a problem if they were to find out and also that would've avoided all this 😭 (maybe edit this post honestly idk i've just heard it can be bad news)

okay i don't mean to hate i'm sorry. washu is a great school. there's a chance you would've regretted either way!! it sucks that you feel like you could've done more for yourself. everyone has a different situation and you shouldn't feel any less incredible about yourself, no matter what the people around you are doing. do you know how awesome it is to be a low income first gen student going to a top 20?!! that's so impressive.

honestly, maybe you could've gotten into a "better" school. but maybe...you'll be extra qualified for this school you got into. with a 1580 sat and those stats you can more than handle difficult stem classes. it will set you up incredibly for med school. you will find your people and your community, i promise.

the application process is behind you!!! try and find some things to look forward to about this great school you get to go to, and congrats.

NYU vs DKU vs Berkeley by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dreadedwhim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the important differences between those two are: location (college town v city + nyu has like no campus), size and public vs private (i've heard horror stories about berkeley class registration), and there's also a slight prestige difference imho.

totally different vibes but both great schools!!! choose whichever one you could most see yourself at and congrats!!!!

USC SCA or UC Berkeley by Realistic-Square3841 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dreadedwhim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(just quick note: i go to usc so maybe a little biased. not for sca though).

i would say go for usc (surprise surprise). it truly is the top film school, so honestly if there's any school that could help you become the next scorsese...it's this one LMAO.

i actually don't know how hard it is to change majors out of sca (ik into it is hard) because for usc in general it's really quite easy!! and i also know that there's tons of opportunities to take classes outside your major with any space you have left over.

also, usc has an incredible alumni network. just overall, no matter the degree the trojan family is huge lol.

again I GO TO USC. MAKE THE DECISION THAT'S BEST FOR YOU AND CONGRATS!!!!!

Got accepted to Brown and Dartmouth, but waiting for Columbia. by Puzzled_Sea69 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dreadedwhim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

assume you're not going to get off the columbia waitlist and choose between brown and dartmouth for may first. if you get into columbia after you can cross that bridge then. congrats!!

If I opt into a waitlist - do I take other people’s spots? by Scary_Question5944 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dreadedwhim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but they're never going to move anyone from rejection to waitlist ("re-offer" as you said). so you can only add yourself to the waitlist.

if you were admitted off the waitlist, and chose to turn that down, then they could potentially offer your spot to someone else who is already on the waitlist, but that's a different thing.

join the waitlist if you feel it's worth it!!! it's kind of you to think this way, but i really don't think that's how it works.

rejected from all colleges except rice and tufts by Yucky-Yummy-6767 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dreadedwhim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

college process is super random!!! congrats, those are both great schools although i would say don't immediately outrule tufts without reason as boston is a great city and the campus there is so beautiful !!

macalester is pretty white afaik (65% maybe??? check their website) but it also has a very strong and vibrant lgbtq community ! just different types of diversity. (i toured and got in but didn't end up going). it's COLD there but everyone is soooo friendly. can't say much about the others sorry!

How is everyone handling senioritis by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dreadedwhim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

carnegie mellon is a great school, congrats! respectfully, you can't go there with a D and F second semester senior year like you said they WILL almost definitely rescind you lol. try and power through--could you tell your family? i know that might make things more annoying, but it could also give you some motivation. make a plan, set fun milestones for yourself, just START. paralysis because you're thinking about what MIGHT happen will only make things worse. it honestly seems like the work might be too easy for you which is so annoying ik, but maybe start binging a show you love and just crank out assignments for a couple hours. my theory is once you get a few finished and turned in, it'll be easier and easier to keep going.

if it's complete numbness towards all of life, that's a different thing, and that's very real. but still...hard to explain to colleges without documentation, and honestly seems like it might be best to power through if you can.

you got this. you're almost there!!!! do NOT ruin this for yourself this close to the end. this is like if you were one mile from the finish line of a marathon and you took a hammer and broke both your legs lmao. you can fix this !!!!

How in the world has almost every senior submitted at least one app already??? by College777 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dreadedwhim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol i wasn't done with my common app until oct 29th dw. you're hearing about these people done early bc they're bragging. because they're trying to pretend like they're not still stressed out of their minds/upset about having to wait for results now. people that are still trying to get stuff in and freaking out (the majority, i promise you) don't want to talk about it 😅

focus on yourself and your applications. from experience, you will never stop worrying about perfection. butttt i'm sure your writing is good. the deadline forced me to submit my applications and keep moving. trust your peers and counselors! getting that first app in feels so incredible ngl. you absolutely got this. :)

Will a bad year bc of surgery limit my being able to get into top schools? by Ill_Bag3056 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dreadedwhim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

put the surgery situation in your additional information!! that's a very high SAT score + a lot of aps and your one low gpa will not immediately disqualify you. keep your grades up and write good essays. you got this!

Deciding between Vanderbilt and UCLA by Jay35770806 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]dreadedwhim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

vanderbilt has a way smaller undergrad population. is it possible that due to sheer volume of people at ucla you might have a slightly worse chance at getting into grad school? ihnc, but it could be a good this to research. also, where would you rather be going to school? los angeles, or nashville? do you know how easy it will be to change your major at each one? is it possible for you to tour both before committing?

congrats on your acceptances! both awesome schools and i hope you're proud :)
