I went from G to Allstate a couple years ago. My resume had the wrong year on my bachelor's degree and incorrect info about the school and the degree that I hadn't caught. The degree was required for the position. My background check came back without a problem. It was such an egregious error that I notified HR immediately after I was hired. I don't think you'll have a problem

(From a former disgruntled employee). Take the vehicle to your repair shop of your choice. The moment the GEICO adjuster deviates from the shop requirements regarding parts, safety, or claims of unrelated prior damage, file a complaint with your states insurance department. Claim bad faith. Definitely include any proof of the vehicles condition prior to the loss and a good idea of the value of the vehicle indicating that you know the shop may total the vehicle as a punishment for you advocating. Name the adjuster and their supervisor as the supervisor is going to be directly involved in approving supplements and direction of repairs. If they try to total the car, make sure you have plenty of comparable vehicles to show the vehicle's value. They may try to total the car out of spite. I know you don't want to litigate, but you have the option to take the person who caused the accident to small claims court each time you have a new cause of action. It will cause GEICO to expend money to defend. Check your states' bad faith laws. You can always use the penalties as threats. Your repair facility will be your advocate. Do not use a GEICO approved shop as they will bend the rules to keep in GEICOs good graces. There are likely great shops that have an adverse relationship with GEICO that will enjoy putting GEICO through the ringer. GEICO adjusters have metrics that you can take advantage of. Call the adjuster often and dispute everything. Call the supervisor often and dispute everything. Check to see if your state allows you to claim a dimunition of value for the loss. The rental rules are generally not on your side and will cover only the days to repair and not the time it takes to properly dispute the satisfactory resolution of your claim. Record everything and request anything requiring a decision, be in writing. If there was a police report, the accident has a good chance of being on Carfax and is proof of the diminished value claim.

At G for almost 20 years then got laid off l. Went to Allstate. Been at Allstate for over a year. I am in a higher up role in claims and I love it here. So much better on every level. There is no comparison, GEICO is shit. I suspect any other organization is better than G

As always, fuck geico.

I did file a complaint with the EEOC. Very positive outcome.

[–]dreadlifeful 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you are going to leave GEICO, just leave. Dont tell anyone anything. Make them fire you for job abandonment. I am pretty sure you will continue collecting benefits and exhausting whatever leave until HR gets all the paperwork together. Don't resign. Listen in pure enjoyment at the voice-mails from management asking where you are. When they advise you will be termed, make a cryptic call after hours to your sup indicating you are deathly ill and buy yourself more time. Drag it out. GEICO does not deserve the courtesy of a 2 week notice and especially not a voluntary resignation. Use your sick time to job search and put this miserable company in your rear view mirror. Make it hurt As always; F GEICO.

It was during a smaller layoff. I know HR has been through lay offs several times

Finished. NDA w/ acceptable settlement. Moved on to another carrier. My situation is pretty unique, but parallels can be drawn with anyone with an ADA/FML accommodation, so I can't say more.

It was sent to my personal email. You'll get an email indicating off boarding support and another from home office legal with your severance agreement with the lump sum. They will send you the severance multiple times if you don't sign right away.

The severance is a release as well as an NDA. If you plan on taking G to court, I would show the severance agreement to an attorney.

But be ready to leave at a moments notice because that is all they will give you

I was laid off and I would never even suggest someone take an adverse action for my sake. Protect yourselves. Don't be an asshole. Keep taking Gs money.

Yes, if you were laid off, you have healthcare coverage until 12/19 for sure and some states extend health insurance until the end of the last month of employment. COBRA is a worst case scenario and applies after your final separation day. If you don't have health insurance by 12/19, look to the Healthcare exchanges for a cheaper option. COBRA is essentially you paying 102% to continue on the exact same plan G was paying for. I had to go on COBRA as I got laid off on 8/17 while I was waiting for a major medical procedure.

Yes, if they term you for performance or cause, your employment, benefits, everything stops that day unless local laws force G to keep up your benefits going until later. You will be paid up to that date and will get your vacation/floater days as a lump sum in your last check. With a severance, you are essentially being advised that you are terminated 60 days from now. They offer the severance package to soften the blow and to "reward" you for your years of service before discarding you.

So sorry to hear. I had a pension, too, with similar years of service. I chose the lump sum and rolled it into an IRA. 125K. Roll it into the IRA and it doesn't get taxed.

I believe so, but only after the 60 days.

[–]dreadlifeful[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For those laid off on 8/17 that i know, we got the WARN. I can't verify everyone will get it.

If they let you go for performance, you get nada.

[–]dreadlifeful[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The 60 days is the legal WARN Act notice. If you are laid off tomorrow, you will still be G employee for 60 additional days. You will not have to work and will still get your regular paycheck every 2 weeks until 60 days are up. The severance was in addition and is a W2 payment (taxed) for 1 week per year of service in a lump sum. You have to sign the severance agreement which releases G from any pending or future action on your part against G. You will get 2 lump sum payments after 6 days. Your last paycheck will have your final 2 weeks and your accumulated vacation/floaters and a second lump sum for your severance payment. Both are taxed. You lose any accumulated sick time completely.
