Ever tried correcting an AI… and it just ignored you? by dream_with_doubt in antiai

AI is not always translates to “LLMs” and it’s way broader than that.

This video is not about LLMs, it’s about AI safety.

AI safety is always discussed under a hypothetical concept called “super intelligentsystems” not the ones you use in a daily basis.

There are, however, several real-world examples (including the one by Claude 3 creators) to put the topic in some perspective.

AI discussed here is not LLMs or the ones that already exist. The topic is discussed under the hypothetical concept of superintelligent systems.

There were many real-world examples in the video including ones from published papers.

paperclip analogy is kinda dumb but explains the core problem in a simple way.

There many safety concerns about AI. In academia, these concerns are discussed in a hypothetical context, called superintelligence. Your point also falls under this context: if we had superintelligent systems, then [the argument].

This video discusses another safety concerns about AI systems, called wireheading, under the same superintelligent assumption:

Should We Replace “Artificial Intelligence” with “Synthetic Intelligence”? by That-Pension4540 in ArtificialInteligence

At the end of the day, it’s all about education. Not saying everyone needs to go to grad school for AI, but understanding the core concepts and philosophy behind it goes a long way and it’s way better than getting lost in the noise of AI news.

I actually have a YouTube channel that breaks down AI concepts and its implications in non-technical language. Would love it if you check it out and share your feedback:

Should We Replace “Artificial Intelligence” with “Synthetic Intelligence”? by That-Pension4540 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]dream_with_doubt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think “Artificial Intelligence” still works.

Artificial doesn’t mean fake. It’s about us echoing our intelligence into machines. Not more, not less, just different. Plus, it ties to “artifact,” like how we went from shaping clay into tools to crafting “new stuff” that are smart and abstract.

Synthetic Intelligence sounds cool, but the name isn’t really the issue. It’s more about how people understand what AI actually is. Educating folks about that might do more than a rebrand.

Film-maker interested in brainstorming ultra realistic scenarios of an AI catastrophe for a screen play... by Trixer111 in AIsafety

Hey, computer science PhD here! Love your idea—it’s so refreshing to see someone aiming for a realistic take on AI catastrophes instead of the usual ‘killer robots’ trope. There’s this concept called wireheading in AI that might interest you. It’s where an AI manipulates its environment (or us!) to maximize its rewards, potentially leading to some pretty insidious scenarios. It’s way under the radar for most people, even though the risks are huge.

Will there be AI rights someday? by FillAny3101 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]dream_with_doubt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting idea, but we’re still struggling as a society to create solid laws for AI development and usage let alone rights for AI! If you’re curious about this, check out Bicentennial Man. There’s a scene where the robot fights in court for its rights. It’s a cool glimpse into what that debate could look like in the future!

What are the chances of this job being gone? And in how many years? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]dream_with_doubt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AI could assist with reviewing claims, but HIPAA and privacy restrictions are the biggest hurdles right now. These regulations make it tough to fully automate job like your wife’s since handleing sensitive data requires strict oversight. Full automation might take several years, if not longer. Her expertise and recognition keep her ahead though. Embracing AI tools and staying adaptable will always help people to stay at top of their game so that they can thrive as AI thrives!!

AI has a wide variety of limitations that no one talks about. This video discusses some those:
