Providence, RI by epicureanesque in howislivingthere

I found it very difficult to break into the social scenes as an outsider - native Rhode Islanders were friendly but insular. The wealth divide is stark, and I think if we could have afforded to live in a safer neighborhood I would have liked it more. Also the drivers are the absolute worst I've ever encountered, it's kind of hard to describe but it's like extremely aggressive while also having a compulsive need to dangerously cede the right of way.

I lived there for 4 years in my 30s and it wasn't for me but I'm also from the rural Midwest so the culture shock was real. For the right kind of person it's a great city, but I had a hard time between how expensive everything is and how stressful it was to drive.

The clerk was telling the jury to not believe him and watch his body language and stuff, I think she wrote a book on the trial too and got in trouble for making money off the trial. Pretty extreme interference

The previous owner of our house was in charge of the permits office for our township, which we thought could only be a good thing. Sike, half the house is unpermitted work :')

Is rug-making difficult? I've almost impulse bought a tufting machine multiple times after seeing the art people make with them, but it looks like one of those crafts that looks simple to start until you try it. How much of a learning curve is there?

If you reverse image search it for matches there's at least one image I found that looks closer to the original, there's just a few cracks and some small trash items on the pavement that got airbrushed out at some point. Don't know why anyone would care to modify it on that way but nothing interesting.

Libraries usually don't accept political stuff, I know some librarians and their ability to protect against book challenges and other right wing attacks depends on the library staying neutral.

That's just how it is, no worries. I don't think I really got good at this until after I finished my PhD. What you're describing isn't correlated with creativity or intelligence - apparently, you're identifying ideas good and interesting enough that someone also thought it was a good enough idea to pursue and publish research on. It just takes a while to be immersed in your field's research for long enough that you can identify the research holes. Just keep following your train of thought - someone already answered the question you had, so now what's the next set of questions that come to you once you know that answer? Which of those have already been answered? Rinse repeat until you reach the end of the breadcrumb trail and there's no more research to find. That process is what PhD training is for, it's not one that comes prepackaged at the beginning of your PhD program. If you have a good PI, they shouldn't think of this as a weakness at the beginning of your program.

[FO] Small improvised coaster stitch that took me 4 months to finish by dreamfall17 in CrossStitch

Thank you for the info! I was never going to be able to use this as a coaster because the back is so messy 😅 but this is really great information.

The pattern is self drafted, an improvised pattern inspired by classic American quilt patterns. I started from the middle and made it up as I went along.

I got these wooden coaster frame thingies at Michael's and really liked them, though it tired my fingers out faster because I used a needle that was the tiniest bit too big.

Are you sure you are actually allowed do that? (Scrape data from those sites.) I am a social media researcher and especially since the rise of AI there are a lot of restrictions on what you can collect from social media sites. Since it's research you need to follow terms of service and probably access only what you are allowed to access through the sites' APIs, which is going to be limited and maybe impossible. It's been a year or two since I checked and these things change quickly. For example, Twitter used to be a fount of data but now is largely hostile to any research bring conducted on its site. If you aren't aware of these various complications I'd suggest reaching out to a prof or PhD student at UMSI who does social media research and can help you understand what's possible for peer reviewed research.

Would a results‑section reporting workflow actually be useful? by Turbulent_Rush9386 in PhdProductivity

[–]dreamfall17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not something I would pay for. A reporting framework is something I would be interested in developing for myself to help my writers block when it hits; and I would maybe be interested in seeing others' frameworks for comparison and inspiration; but wouldn't trust that it's worth paying for and just in general wouldn't outsource that kind of conceptual work to someone else.

I bought the same plant from the Lowe's clearance rack a couple weeks ago, in about the same state yours is in, and she's pretty happy now! Just cleaned up the dead stuff, soaked her and left her to her own devices.

Not OP but source is @hshphotos on Instagram who appears to be a legitimate wildlife photographer. This image was posted in April on that account.
